On Sunday, the women of the joint West of Scotland and Glasgow University Cricket Club team competed in the penultimate leg of the Cricket Scotland Wee Bash. This time in Edinburgh.
The ladies began the day with a victory over Galloway Gold followed by a huge 65 run win over Edinburgh University including 5 sixes off 5 balls from Sophie. This was followed by two further victories in the group stages.
The final was against Edinburgh South CC/Clydesdale joint team. The opposition started well with openers going strong until Lauren, after a quick tactical discussion, took out the off stump of one opener before a great catch from Sophie removed the other. Brilliant all-round cricket.
Edin South/Clydesdale never recovered, setting a target of 41 with West/Glasgow Uni openers - Nadia and Nayma - almost seeing the game home. The target was reached for the loss of just one wicket.
This leaves West of Scotland/Glasgow University in a dominant position at the top of the table going into the final leg in April. Having not competed this time around, the stand alone West of Scotland Women's team will be looking to secure second place.
With the summer fast approaching, West are looking for more female cricketers for the outdoor season. Experience is not important, so if you want to try a new sport, or join a new team, contact West of Scotland Women's cricket on firstname.lastname@example.org
