Junior Update

4 months ago By David Hinchliffe

The junior section is thriving, here's what's happening.

Mike Ashworth has the latest from the junior section, who have been playing a lot in recent weeks.

U12s lost last week against East Kilbride/Weirs last Monday. It was obvious that we have a some natural talent in our ranks but lack experience. This is not surprising considering how many of our players are new to the club and bodes well for the future.

This was particularly obvious last night where we won a close one against East Ren by 3 runs. I noticed a significant improvement which made a big difference. There were few wickets and improvements in the field. Bowling is the next focus.

U14s have won the last two games with Renfrew. Some of our guys, such as Soham, Matthew, John and Iain are improving all the time. Soham in particular is making real progress, hopefully as a result of his exposure to senior cricket and the work done in training. Walter and Chris have stepped up from the U12s and have done well.

The U16s have lost both in the last couple of weeks with Ayr making light work of beating them and Poloc winning fairly comfortably too. Nevertheless, Soham is performing well. Edson and Nakul clearly benefiting from Development cricket. Iain, Matt and John are often stepping up from U14s.

Overall, things are positive.

In my conversations with the parents at U12s where we have made the most progress, they have mentioned that Nick's work at school, coupled with Robbie's enthusiasm, has brought in many new faces and brought back some from season's gone by.
