Yesterday (Sunday 7th April), West of Scotland Women competed in the final leg of the Wee Bash and took home the trophy for topping the table.
The opening game - hosted at at Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh - against Dundee and Angus was a close affair. Having been set a target of 68 to win, Moon and Nadia both made good scores but were unable to take West over the line. With 4 to win off the last ball, Emily was on strike and played a brilliant straight drive to claim the victory.
West went on to record three convincing wins in the group stages, against MCA, Edinburgh South and Watsonians. Youngsters Nayma, Emily and Faatima all continued to play key roles and were assisted by some sharp work by Maisie behind the stumps.
Harriet was once again on fine form, both with the ball and opening the batting and seeing the team home, scoring the winning runs. Her contribution over the course of the tournament is particularly impressive considering she only took the sport up in November!
West played the final against Edinburgh University and bowled their opposition out cheaply, thanks to a great fielding display. The team chased down the score in eight balls claiming victory in the final leg of the tournament.
The victory meant West of Scotland CC finished the tournament top of the table alongside the joint West of Scotland CC/Glasgow Uni CC team in their first ever competition: A great way to start the season with three other competitions to come this summer.
