Women's Cricket at West of Scotland

By David Hinchliffe

Ladies flying high in first season.

West of Scotland Women's team is less than a year old , but has gone from nothing to one of the largest Women's cricket sections in Scotland.

Following a full winter programme and winning The Wee Bash , Cricket Scotland's National Indoor tournament for Women and Girls, West of Scotland started their inaugural season in high spirits.

Their Women's Premier League season got off to a flyer beating reigning champions Edinburgh South/Stewart's Melville in their first ever competitive fixture. This was quickly followed by a second consecutive win against Carlton CC.

Attention then turned to the UK-Wide Vitality T20 Cup. West of Scotland Women were the only Scottish team to enter the tournament. They tasted their first defeat at the hands of Tynedale CC losing the 20 over game in the final over. Following this the team were unlucky to be knocked out of the Vitality T20 Plate Competition as a bowl off decided the winner after a run of poor weather.

The team are looking forward to continuing their Women's Premier League campaign this Sunday (23rd June) against RHC who are travelling to West of Scotland's historic ground Hamilton Crescent.
