  • 150th Anniversary Season Sports Dinner - Autumn 2011
    16 June 2011 - 12:43:58
Douglas McCrea and I are organising the final event for West's 150th Anniversary Season.
We are planning a Sports Dinner, on either 28th October or 11th November and likely to be at Firhill.
This event has become EVEN more important due to the dreadful weather which is afflicting this cricket season and having a drastic effect on West's finances and cashflow.
We need 100 people to attend this event to produce a result. Dougie has already made a promising start in attracting provisional bookings and I am now seeking support from West members, their friends and business contacts to ensure that this event can be very successful.
Tickets will be £40 per head which covers 3 courses, tea or coffee and entertainment.
Dougie is lining up attractive and well known speakers.
Please let me know by Friday 24th June how many places you can provisionally take at this Sports Dinner. You can book any number of places from 1 upwards and we hope to plan table settings in groups of 6, 8 or 10.
We will also be contacting prospective contacts away from West so that we can get the best financial impact for the Dinner and for West but I earnestly request that every member of West makes a real effort to support this Sports Dinner - and your Club.
We look forward to hearing from you on - johnr.thomson@btinternet.com - by Friday 24th June at the latest so that we can move forward and finalise arrangements for the 150th Anniversary Sports Dinner

  • Cricket Coming Up Imminently
    15 June 2011 - 10:08:14
This Thursday sees NVT Poloc visit Hamilton Crescent for a West League Cup encounter.
On Saturday McCrea FS West travel to Ayr for a vital SNCL match while Partick entertain Whitehaugh at home in the Lions SNCL Reseve League ( I think!!).
Sunday brings Renfrew to West for a Strathclyde League match with the 3s.
All this, of course, is subject to the vagaries of the Scottish climate!

Summer Draw Books will DEFINITELY be issued next week - after yet another wedding.

  • Drumps Destroyed by Partick
    14 June 2011 - 15:25:52
Only thing to report on a wet weekend was an excellent win over Drumps 2s in deepest Coatbridge by Partick. Well done, guys.
See on facebook that the weather changed miraculously the next morning at nearby Uddy. Bet Hoffy doesn't call off a game so quickly again!
BBQ weather in Stonehaven on Sunday and a Bonus Ball win! Are things getting better? Of course!

  • Fantasy League 2011 - Update # 2
    10 June 2011 - 14:05:11
Firstly allow me to apologise for the outrageous delay in updating the Fantasy League. It’s been a really busy month in terms of fixtures and getting hold of the scorebook isn’t always easy. Thanks though to Ian, Jonny and Duncan for ensuring the books were in the boardroom last night and allowing me to make this update.

I am delighted to announce for the first time that the current leader of the Fantasy League is in fact me. Rumours of corruption in sport are rife in this day in age and I’m sure Mr Grumpy (soon to be known as Daddy Grumpy) Iain Cran will already be concocting all sorts of conspiracy theories. Duncan Williams unfortunately named team ‘Saddle Sores’ occupy 2nd place in what is shaping up to be an extremely tight competition. 4th-13th positions are separated by just 120 points and this can be turned around in a weekend’s cricket. Captain and main club sponsor continue to show a united front in 19th and 20th positions respectively whilst Andrea Thomson is 130 points adrift in last position.

There is a transfer window looming large on the horizon and it is time for folk to separate the Nike’s from the Nick’s, the Lamborghini’s from the Lada’s and the Colin De Grandhomme’s from the Adrian Shankhar’s. What better excuse to get down to Hamilton Crescent and support whatever XI may be playing on that day? Let’s create a positive atmosphere around the place and get behind our players!!

Below is the full table, correct as of the 10th June 2011.

    Position Name Team Points
    1 Stewart Leggat David Hassel-Huff 1055
2 Duncan Williams Saddle Sores 1035
3 Liam Howgate The Chosen Few 1000

11 David McNulty Go the Eels 840
12 George Ralston Il Gato e Velocie 820
13 August Pandey The Calendar Boys 820
    14 Chris Ross Chris's Cruasaders 765

  • The West Wide Boys!!
    09 June 2011 - 16:55:00
Last weekend was a disappointment with defeats to Stoneywood Dyce on Saturday in the SNCL and to Greenock in the Scottish Cup on Sunday. We managed to bowl nigh on 40 wides in these two relatively low scoring encounters!
Partick also lost to Titwood on Saturday.
This weekend sees McCrea FS West playing Drumpellier at home and Partick travelling to Coatbridge to play Drumps 2s - just like the old days.
Your correspondent is heading north till next week so the Grand Summer Draw books will not be issued until his return. Lets hope for a better weekend this time!
