Under 18s
17 August 2010 - 11:51:12
West Under 18s have rescheduled their home league fixture against Prestwick for Wed 1st September. Hopefully conditions will be a tad drier than last night's fixture between the sides at the Henry Thow swimming baths, which ended in a tie.

Twin Defeats for McCrea FS West and Partick
16 August 2010 - 20:18:10
Aberdeenshire beat McCrea FS West at Hamilton Crescent on Saturday by 22 runs in a pretty low key affair. A 2nd wicket stand between Coetzer and MacRae of 91 followed by useful innings from Reid, Cross and Martin took the visitors to 217 for 5 in 50 overs. GT and Aftab both took 2 wickets for McCrea FS West.

In reply a promising 2nd wicket stand of 68 between Dougie (63) and Stuart Murray (31) provided a good base for the run chase but after these two went followed by Anjan (23) the innings subsided in a surprisingly dormant way.

The most entertaining part of the latter stages of our innings was the constant path to the Clubhouse by those who were attending a fancy dress function. Time to get really focussed for Watsonians next week as Greenock -after their win at Forfarshire - are breathing down our necks at the foot of the table! Let's keep Campbell at bay!

It was good to welcome back to West, John Tomlinson who made the journey from the North, not only to watch his son play for Aberdeenshire, but to travel down to Anfield to watch Liverpool and Arsenal on Sunday.

Meanwhile Partick travelled to East Kilbride and were beaten by 52 runs. Next weekend they meet again - this time on Sunday in the Western Cup Final at 2pm at Hamilton Crescent.

Final SNCL Home Game in 2010 for McCrea FS West
12 August 2010 - 18:06:03
Saturday sees the visit of Aberdeenshire to Hamilton Crescent for the final HOME SNCL match of the Season. Aberdeenshire's season has been as much a disappointment for them as has ours.
After last week's excellent win against Greenock our guys want to build on that result by securing a second win in a row. Game starts at 1pm

Partick travel to East Kilbride in the Brunton Miller Western Union in what will be a dress rehearsal for the Western Cup Final at West on Sunday 22nd August.

Senior weekend fixtures will not now be completed with a friendly at home on Sunday between the 3s and Biggar as my Spy in the Sky tells me it is OFF - Sorry!!.

Junior Joy
09 August 2010 - 21:03:51
A thoroughly good weekend for West Juniors with the only blot on the horizon being the (inevitable) wash out of the U15s home fixture against Kelburne on Friday.
On the same evening West U11s visited the midge infested swamps of Ardencaple and beat their hosts comfortably by 71 runs. Robbie McCallum with 21* and 2-4 was the all rounder of the evening, shaking off his Tiree jet lag to put in an epic performance. Tom Barrett also bowled superbly, finishing with 2-7. He was, of course run out when batting, but that is now the norm. A good all round display. Bring on Poloc.

Monday evening saw West enjoy a comfortable double over neighbours Glasgow Accies.
The U13s (only 9 players) made the short trip to New Anniesland and batted and bowled with great aplomb to secure a 30 run victory. The only blemish on a good evening's work was some sloppy fielding and some missed run outs. West 96-2, A Ewing 31 retired,F Waddell 24. GA 66-4.
The pyrotechnics were reserved for Hamilton Crescent where West Under 18s (with only 7 players) racked up 225-0 in 20 overs. The homesters had double centurions with A Luthra on 110 and A Umeed on 101. Needless to say the visiting Accies wilted to 109-7, with A Majhu (not keeping for a change) picking up 3-17 and A Ata 2-14.

At Least Two Victories Over The Weekend
09 August 2010 - 18:15:15
McCrea FS West won the Scottish Ashes Basement Battle at Glenpark on Saturday by 3 wickets. Greenock won the toss and batted. They accumulated slowly against excellent bowling from GT, Cranny and the Pirate. The last two acquired 3 wickets each. GT bowled really well and on other occasions will perform less well but get wickets! Once Kevin McLaren was gone for 59, apart from two good knocks from young Alex Baum and Ryan Begley, the Greenock innings subsided to 177 for 9 at 50 overs.
The weather in Greenock was supreme as was the Lepick tea which your correspondent and others enjoyed. (Learning to freeload like a journalist!)

What we didn't enjoy was Youngy's slap to midwicket and Gregg's suicidal run out. Jats and Anjan began the repair work with Anjan batting like an F1 Racing Driver - fast and reckless. After Jats became the second run out victim Anjan was caught behind for a good 37. At the half way stage McCrea FS West were 68 for 5 (approx). At this stage your correspondent had to leave, but did so, letting David Campbell know there was every chance of a West win.
This was confirmed by an excited text from Dobs from whom I learned that Kash had scored 54 and Neil B 47 (before he, too, was run out). This stand turned the game round and the Greenock supporters were left to think about how the English Ashes were born.

Meanwhile at Hamilton Crescent Helensburgh rattled 241 for 9 before Partick stroked 243 for 6 - Cammy Gibb 72 not out, and Jamie Burton 34 not out with Stuart Murray contributing the same score.

Two excellent victories - all I need now is to find out if the 3s scored over 255 to beat Glasgow Accies yesterday.

STOP PRESS Accies won!!!

Cricket in Store for This Weekend and Beyond
05 August 2010 - 20:31:23
Firstly, we now know that Partick's opponents in The Western Cup Final ( to be played at Hamilton Crescent) are East Kilbride. When we know the date it will be posted here pronto!

Saturday sees the Basement Battle in SNCL between us and Greenock at Glenpark. Only pride - and our reputation!! - are at stake but I am looking for a positive performance from McCrea FS West - building on the improvement I understand took place against Grange last weekend.

Partick entertain Helensburgh in Brunton Miller WU in another important league tussle. A win is pretty important and, again, the team must approach this with confidence and a will to succeed.

The Fixture Card tells me on Sunday that Hamilton Crescent XI play Glasgow Accies at home and this, too, is a game which needs a real effort from all the home players.

At this stage in the season lets all "play for the jersey" and show pride in playing for WSCC. Good luck!
