  • Annual General Meeting

    The Club AGM will be held in the Clubhouse on Monday 19th December at 7pm.
    The Notice and relevant papers will be circulated shortly. This will be by email to those for whom I hold details and by post to last notified address for other members.

    I anticipate a large turnout as the Fantasy Leaguers will be there in force to find out their fate.

    Yes yes, I hear the cries. 'What's taking so long' and 'when will we find out the winner' have been statements heard over the past months. I can now reveal the winner will be announced at the 2011 AGM. It's a close affair so be sure to come along and potentially claim your prize.

    At a presentation evening on Friday 25th November, the following awards were made to the Club's youngsters for 2011:

    U18 Player of the Year -- Gurjit Singh
    U15 Player of the Year -- Iain Wheel
    U13 Player of the Year -- Alex Ewing
    U11 Player of the Year -- Tom Barrett
    Junior Team of the year -- the Under 11 unbeaten league champions
    Junior Player of the Year and recipient of the TW Kerr award -- Robbie McCallum.

    Many Congratulations to all our winners and special thanks to our sponsors McCrea Financial Services Ltd for providing the trophies.

  • Former West Players Included in Cricket Scotland's Hall of Fame

    Many congratulations to Craig Wright on his inclusion in the Cricket Scotland Hall of Fame which was announced at a Dinner in Edinburgh last night. Craig's formative years were spent at Hamilton Crescent and he was a vital member of the very successful West teams in the Colin Mair era.

    We can also claim Rev Jim Aitchison, as in his last years of playing cricket, he
    appeared for the Partick Eleven. passing on his unique way of playing cricket to his younger West team mates.

  • West Support Cricket Scotland's New League and Cup Structure for 2012

    According to todays "Herald" West have declared their backing for Cricket Scotland's New League and Cup Structure for 2012.
    Chairman Gordon Smith said: " We are disappointed the original solution (a streamlined National League for 2012) appears not to have been feasible but we are glad that Cricket Scotland have grasped the nettle and made a decision. They have probably done the best they could."
    He added that the new Scottish Cup structure, played on a genuinely national basis, had helped sway West in confirming their support.

    Here's to a competitive League and Cup Season for all in 2012.

  • Success for West at Hillhead Sports Club to Round Off the 150th Anniversary Season Celebrations

    I am delighted to report, that by all accounts, Friday's 150th Anniversary Season Sporting Dinner, was voted a great success.
    Nearly 100 Guests enjoyed Cafe Source's catering, which was excellent, the superb speeches by Sheriff Lindsay Wood and Jim Duffy and the brilliant hosting of the event by Michael Max.
    We thank all those mentioned above for their great contributions and support. We also thank Dougie McCrea and McCrea Financial Services Ltd for their help and support and Bernie Mitchelll and Hillhead Sports Club for the use of their excellent new facilities.
    We thank everyone who provided raffle and auction prizes and all the guests who put their hands in their pockets so generously in raising over £4,500 at this historic event.

    On the eve of The 150th Anniversary Season Sporting Dinner, Roger Eggins, a member of the West 1968 Western Union Championship winning team, sends his best wishes to West for a successful event, and also asks to be remembered to all the 1968 side living at home or abroad.

    Roger, your best wishes are happily reciprocated. Glad to see you at West anytime!

    All Juniors, Parents and Coaches are invited to the Junior Awards Night and Quiz evening at the Clubhouse on Friday 25th November at 7pm.

    Awards will be made to juniors in every age group and the Under 11 League Trophy will be presented to our winning squad.

    A quiz evening will follow, organised by Wilson Galloway (so swot up on tax codes, capital gains, inheritance tax and other popular topics).

    On Friday 11th November we celebrate the final event of West's 150th Anniversary Season with The Sports Dinner at Hillhead Sports Club.

    Only 25 days to go - and only 20 places remaining - to be part of this historic event and to have a really entertaining evening with our Guest Speakers, Sheriff Lindsay Wood and Jim Duffy. The inimitable Michael Max will host The Sports Dinner encouraging you to help raise funds for our famous Cricket Club.
