Rowan Cup Final
17 July 2010 - 20:49:32
Roll up, Roll up. West of Scotland will host Clydesdale in the Rowan Cup Final on Wednesday 21st July at 6pm. The prize for the winners is not only one of the most impressive trophies in Scottish Cricket and £500, but also a place in the prestigious Murgitroyd 20/20 National Finals day at Shawholm on Sunday 25th July.
Come along and support the boys. Perhaps we can brighten up an otherwise dismal season with some silverware.

West Washout weekend
11 July 2010 - 10:38:46
The only people feeling at home at Hamilton Crescent this weekend were our Saturday guests from The Western Baths.
Although the First XI SNCL game against Forfarshire eventually got under way at 3pm, having been reduced to 35 overs per side, only 20 overs of cricket were possible before another deluge brought an end to proceedings with the visitors on 81-3.
The Second XI Brunton Miller WDCU fixture at Hillhead was abandoned without a ball being bowled, as was the Sunday home SNCL league match between the First XI and the National Academy side.
It looks like the weather is back to normal, folks.

Under 11s Escape to Victory
10 July 2010 - 09:56:05
Well, victory is a bit strong since Weirs trounced West's Under 11s at Albert Park last night, but prior to the game, conceded the points as they could only put out a team by playing two over age players.
West travelled with three young hard ball debutants and all acquitted themselves well. Well done Messrs Shafer, Day and Kumar jr. No, it was the experienced heads in the team who had a collective nightmare.
Weirs opened the batting with their two Gullivers against our lilliputians and the ball was smacked to all corners. This start probably dispirited our boys and only Messrs McCallum and Godsman were able to stem the flow.
Weirs finished on 148-6, net 318. (96 runs off the bat and 52 extras)
West struggled in reply and suffered at the hands of some exceptional Weirs' fielding. There were four run outs, three of them direct hits from distance. A poor batting display only amassed 134 for 10, net 284. (only 49 runs off the bat and 85 extras).
Imagine the boys' relief after the game when they were told that they had won by default. An unhappy coach still berated the boys, pointing out that this had been their poorest performance of the season, whereupon young MCG piped up, "what about the Clydesdale match?". A deflated coach had to agree that the boys were, indeed, capable of being even worse than tonight.
The irony for Weirs is that they probably would have beaten us if they had just fielded their six Under 11 boys.

Fantasy League Week 10 Update
08 July 2010 - 12:10:28
Apologies for the period of time since the last update. As you can now see there has been some significant movement in the league table. Whilst John Cameron vocally stated his request for the league tables to remain as they were in week 6 he now find himself down in 5th position with Jonny Graham sitting proudly on top. No doubt this is down to his detailed knowledge of each and every player in the club given he's tried to get just about everyone a game in the 2's this year!! The top 9 are seperated by just 100 points and the second half of the season is shaping up to be very tight contest.
In an interesting development Misty Rlaston, the family canine, is eight (yes that's EIGHT) places above George. With Paul the psychic octopus creating quite a stir in Germany maybe George should be consulting Misty when picking next year's team.
The standings after week 10 are:
Position Team Team Owner Points

Leighton Buzzards Off Home
04 July 2010 - 12:59:55
Injury prone Club Professional Leighton Burtt has terminated his contract and heads back to New Zealand today to recuperate after a series of unfortunate injuries.
At the start of the season, Leighton struggled with our extremely cold weather and pulled a hamstring, which ruled him out for a couple of weeks. After recovering from this setback, the pro experienced further difficulties with an ingrowing toenail that turned septic, followed by the coup de grace last week when his achilles tendon gave up the ghost.
Realising that it could be 4/5 weeks until this healed, Leighton discussed the situation with the Board and indicated his preference was to return home and work on being fit for the New Zealand cricket team.
This was agreed, but the ever enthusiastic Leighton still helped out at this week's summer camp and junior and senior training sessions. To add insult to injury, on Thursday night at training Leighton mis fielded a lobbed cricket ball which cracked his nose and blackened his eye. An ironic send off for the big man.
Leighton's time here will probably be remembered for all the wrong reasons, but those who saw his last match will not forget the limping giant batting through the pain with a runner to see us to victory over Clydesdale.
He also coached the young U10s and U11s with great enthusiasm and proved very popular with our next generation of club cricketers.
We wish him well in the future and hope he enjoys an injury free season back home.

Mixed Fortunes
04 July 2010 - 12:43:38
With over 20 players unavailable on Saturday, West's resources were tested to the limit. The first XI trip to Uddingston was akin to an after school club outing with three current juniors and five recent products of the Club's junior system making up the bulk of the side.
Sadly, the outcome was a humiliating defeat as the West batsmen continued where they left off last Sunday in the Cup. Wickets were liberally gifted by poor shots on a decent deck and West were all out for 63 in 30 overs. The return of the prodigal GT to cricket after a gap of 6/7 years quickly removed the dangerous Hoffmann, but the home team eased to a seven wicket win.
Meanwhile Jonny Graham's troops entertained bottom team Galloway in the Brunton Miller WDCU Division 1 fixture at Hamilton Crescent. At halfway, Galloway had scored 264-2, leaving the depleted home team with a mountain to climb. While West's juniors played a part, the last gasp one wicket victory was an antipodean triumph, thanks to 62 from Stuart Beaufoy and a match winning 92 from the pirate, peg-leg McNulty.
