Mixed Fortunes
04 July 2010 - 12:43:38
With over 20 players unavailable on Saturday, West's resources were tested to the limit. The first XI trip to Uddingston was akin to an after school club outing with three current juniors and five recent products of the Club's junior system making up the bulk of the side.
Sadly, the outcome was a humiliating defeat as the West batsmen continued where they left off last Sunday in the Cup. Wickets were liberally gifted by poor shots on a decent deck and West were all out for 63 in 30 overs. The return of the prodigal GT to cricket after a gap of 6/7 years quickly removed the dangerous Hoffmann, but the home team eased to a seven wicket win.
Meanwhile Jonny Graham's troops entertained bottom team Galloway in the Brunton Miller WDCU Division 1 fixture at Hamilton Crescent. At halfway, Galloway had scored 264-2, leaving the depleted home team with a mountain to climb. While West's juniors played a part, the last gasp one wicket victory was an antipodean triumph, thanks to 62 from Stuart Beaufoy and a match winning 92 from the pirate, peg-leg McNulty.

West League Cup
01 July 2010 - 10:07:47
An under strength West 1st XI beat Drumpellier by 8 wickets in last night's West League cup tie at Hamilton Crescent.
Perhaps the visitors, having already qualified for the semi finals, were not firing on all cylinders but their Indian professional, K Sahabuddin, with an accompished 80 not out, ensured that a competitive total of 128 for 4 was posted. Best of the home bowlers was rookie junior Gurjit Singh with 3-30.
West built steadily in reply and, by making sure they did not give away early wickets, established a platform, which allowed them to ease home with two overs to spare. Captain IDKY opened the innings and finished on 61 not out. He was ably supported by Jatinder Singh with 22 and Duncan Williams with 29.
There is one match still to be played in this section, West having to travel to Clydesdale. The winners of that tie will qualify for the semi finals.
The three clubs already through are Drumpellier, Kelburne and Ferguslie.

Scottish Cup Exit
28 June 2010 - 21:35:28
The dismal performance of West's First Team in Sunday's Scottish Cup defeat at the hands of Stirling County was something of a mystery, given their superb win over Clydesdale in the SNCL fixture on Saturday.
As we can see here, irate West Supremo Bobby Kettlewell wasted no time in berating his squad. We can rest assured he will not tolerate any repeat performances this season.

No Home Scottish Cup Final Appearance in 2010
27 June 2010 - 20:55:32
Stirling County deservedly beat McCrea FS West in today's Scottish Cup Quarter Final at Hamilton Crescent. So the Road to Hamilton Crescent on Sat 4th September is still paved in Stirling gold!
Stirling batted first and in an innings punctuated by frequent heavy showers (and the occasional cheer from the Pavilion - 4 in all!) reached 196 for 3 after 41 overs.
Duckworth Lewis worked out that the home team had to score 217 to win and despite a fighting 46 from Youngy, Stirling's amended total was never in any real danger and Stirling were victors by 42 runs.
With Dougie, GG, Moneeb and Kash missing through international commitments and The Pro out through injury, this obviously created difficulties for McCrea FS West but on the day the better side won.
Its Drumps on Wednesday 30th at Hamilton Crescent - a 6pm start in the West League Cup.

A Well Deserved Victory for McCrea FS West
27 June 2010 - 09:22:51
It was like old times at Hamilton Crescent yesterday as McCrea FS West powered to a nail-biting victory over old local rivals Greaves Clydesdale by 4 wickets.
A large crowd, including Dougie McCrea and his McCrea Financial Services Ltd guests, soaked up the exciting cricket as well as a few other things!
Clydesdale raced to 77 for 1, were clawed back to 111 for 6, before a 100 plus stand between Kamran Sajid (79) and M Ali (51 not out) for the 7th wicket helped the visitors reach 255 for 7 in 50 overs. Dave McNulty (always keen to impress the sponsor - remember ARBROATH several years ago) took 4 for 45. Cranny bowled a great spell of 2 for 34 in 10 overs and there was a fine debut spell of bowling from 15 year old Andrew Umeed.
At 41 for 2 McCrea FS West had much to do. Without Dougie Lockhart, Gordon Goudie and Mohammud Kashif (international commitiments) the team had to dig deep and take responsibility to achieve victory. They responded to this challenge magnificently. Firstly through a 3rd wicket stand of 116 between Youngy (70) and Duncan Williams (65) before the New Zealand pair of Neil Bisman and Leighton Burtt saw McCrea FS through to victory with an unbeaten stand of 56.
7 was required off 12 balls and then 6 off the last over. Neil, thankfully recovering from last weeks horror accident (40 not out) and given the Man of the Match Award by Dougie McCrea, and Leighton (19 not out) - batting with a runner (the Quicksilver Anjan) after an injury sustained while bowling, stood firm and Neil hit the penultimate ball to the boundary for a thrilling victory for McCrea FS West.
Clydesdale played their part in an excellent cricket match but on occasions their
on-field behaviour left a lot to be desired!
And a huge thanks to Dougie McCrea and his guests for providing a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day. Haste Ye Back!

McCrea Financial Services Ltd at West
25 June 2010 - 19:13:31
A warm welcome to all Douglas McCrea's guests at the SNCL match between
McCrea FS West and Clydesdale at Hamilton Crescent on Saturday 26th June.
Dougie has been very proactive in ensuring his guests arrive for 1pm. We would love a repeat of several years ago when McCrea FS West bowled out Arbroath for 31 while Dougie was still lunching elsewhere!!!!
In reality we are looking forward to the usual competitive Glasgow derby battle against Clydesdale and enjoying the company of Dougie and all his guests throughout the day.
