Saturday In the Sun
20 June 2010 - 08:25:06
Sunny Meikleriggs saw a 440 run thriller as Partick tied with Meikleriggs (220 each) in Brunton Miller Western Union.

Meanwhile in Edinburgh, Scotland (with Dougie Lockhart in and Gordon Goudie out -through injury) battled well against an impressive England in the ODI at The Grange.
This was a really good effort from the home team and Dougie batted superbly toward the end of the Scotland innings helping his team to reach 211 in the 50th over. Dougie was bowled for 46.
England showed what a dangerous side they can be (at cricket!!) and Strauss and Keiswetter provided real class in two different kinds of innings. Strauss - smooth timing and Keiswetter - sheer power. KP came and went for 13 before Collingwood and Morgan steered England to victory.
The Grange - with the bleachers full and in brilliant sunny and warm weather -looked a picture and the day came to an end with a troop of monkeys chasing and catching a rogue banana before the stewards put an end to the fun - in a sympathetic and sensible manner!
Despite the defeat a good day all round for Scottish Cricket. It was just a pity that none of the major Broadcasters were covering this ODI live because everyone would have seen just how well International Cricket can be promoted north of the border.

Oh ---- and the day finished on another high - Argentina defeated by Scotland in their own backyard, where the sun was definitely NOT shining.

Partick Push Past Prestwick in Western Cup
16 June 2010 - 17:10:20
A great win for Jonny Graham's lads at Prestwick last night. Here is guest reporter
JG's match report.

"Partick made 127 for 5 with Alfie Lloyd scoring 54 and Stu Beaufoy an unbeaten 49. Prestwick were then bowled out for around 95 with Gurjit bowling a top opening spell of 3 for 12 from 4 overs. Andy Umeed and Miro Ralston made an important contribution with 2 wickets apiece and Spegsy played a real allrounders role. Liam Howgate was a star in the field. (Jonny is too modest to report that he finished the game with a hattrick!!!!)

Fantastic to see a young side (balanced by Tony and Adam) compete against a 1st Eleven team and win!! It's Uddingston or Ayr in the Semi Finals. Watch this space."

There are definitely better times ahead. Great effort, lads.

Mannofield Victory for Aberdeenshire
13 June 2010 - 09:06:23
It was always going to be tricky without our four international players - and so it proved.
Aberdeenshire won the toss and inserted McCrea FSWest who reached 196 all out in 46th over. Debutant Neil Bisman scored a sensible 40, Jats, opening the innings, batted well for 37 while Youngy scored 34 at No. 3. All three perished to poor shots when the innings needed at least one big score. Three marginal lbw decisions accounted for Gregg, Anjan and Ross but 196 was never going to be enough.
Aberdeenshire's reply started slowly but gained real momentum with an opening stand between Parlane and Coetzer of 70. Aftab struck twice more on 87 but Parlane and Brand put together a stand of 70 before Brand perished to a good catch by Youngy - again keeping wicket! Parlane was eventually out for 69 at 180 for 5 and the home team went on to win by 5 wickets - deservedly.

At 25 overs Aberdeenshire were around 145 and although Aftab took 4 wickets his 10 overs cost 63. No bowler was able to provide a level of control and although two good catches were taken our ground fielding was positively Robert Greenesque at times.

Partick's 8 wicket defeat by East Kilbride at Hamilton Crescent made it another poor day.

No game for the Ones next Saturday as Scotland take on England in a ODI at The Grange but on Sunday Watsonian - now sitting second in SNCL - travel to Hamilton Crescent for another tough game for McCrea FS West.

When the going gets tough - the tough get going, There were enough positives at Mannofield to suggest better times are just around the corner.

And-------Dougie McCrea successfully beat Scafell Pike!

Fantasy League Week 6 Update
10 June 2010 - 22:02:12
After a busy weekend of cricket there has been some significant movement in the Fantasy League. Greg will be devestated to learn that Cammy has leap-frogged him at the top of the table as he slips 3 places to 4th. Early pace setter Aftab has now drifted back into 12th position and must be regretting the amount of gloating he did at training!! Club sponsor Dougie McCrea is way down in 26th position. However, propping up the table is Wilson Galloway with 570 points.

Top performer of the weekend was undoubtedly Kash (with 65 points) who proved the value of actually getting on the field and playing for West!! Dave 'The Pirate' was just behind (with 60 points) and this represents a welcome return to form.

Fixtures for this Weekend Sat 12th and Sun 13th June
10 June 2010 - 20:12:11
Saturday - McCrea FS West make the long journey to Mannofield to face last year's champions, Aberdeenshire, who are also struggling to find the form of 2009.
Dougie Lockhart and Gordon Goudie are playing for Scotland in Holland so there is an opportunity for others to make their mark as we try to gain some SNCL momentum.
Partick are at home to East Kilbride in Brunton Miller WU.

Sunday - From looking at the fixture card there does not appear to be a Sunday fixture for any of our teams.

Your roving reporter will be at Mannofield and his comments will be posted early next week.

Additional Fixture on Saturday. Douglas McCrea v Scafell Pike in the St Margaret's Hospice Challenge. Good luck, Dougie!
