What HAS Happened This Weekend
14 August 2011 - 15:45:17
To nobody's surprise, the elements put paid to the Glasgow SNCL derby between McCrea FS West and Greaves Clydesdale. So, as a result on no play at West and Stoneywood Dyce's victory over Dunfermline Knights, McCrea FS West avoided the bottom 4 and find ourselves in a mini league comprising West, Uddingston, Dunfermline and Stoneywood-Dyce. As I write this we are awaiting the exciting news as to who we play when - and where. The only fact available is that these games will take place on Sun 21 August, Sat 27 August and Sunday 28 August - Watch this space!
As you know, Partick had no game this weekend.
The results of the 2011 Grand Summer Draw are:
1st Prize £500 Robert Gunnion
2nd Prize £250 Jean Snodgrass
3rd Prize £100 Maura Thomson
Congatulations to the winners. The cheques are on their way. Thanks also to all those who contributed and rom whose efforts we raised £765.
This morning I travelled to Carlton for the under 18 Scottish Cup Quarter Final. To read my report please go to the Blog
News of the 3s and Renfrew will no doubt filter through later on.

What's On This Weekend - Weather Permitting?
11 August 2011 - 19:17:33
Yes, it's been wet - very wet and the forecast for tomorrow is not wonderful. It might possibly be drier on Saturday (according to Reporting Scotland) but having visited Hamilton Crescent at 5pm tonight I have to say it is saturated.
So - weather permitting - Saturday will see McCrea FS West play Greaves Clydesdale at Hamilton Crescent from 1pm in a vital SNCL match which will help to decide final league positions on Saturday evening - ahead of the notorious SNCL split.
(Partick do not have a game on Saturday - the fourth time this season - wonderful fixture planning by the League!!)
Saturday evening is the "Not the End of Season Party" and the Grand Summer Draw. This is ON even if the cricket is OFF and West needs everyones's support in returning the Draw Tickets (SOLD) and attending.
On Sunday morning the Under 18s head for Carlton and a 10am start in the Quarter Final of the Under 18 Scottish Cup. A good reason for an early rise and a trip to Edinburgh.
On Sunday afternoon the 3s plan to visit Renfrew in a Sunday League match.
I suspect it all depends on the elements but an interesting weekend is heading our way!!

Western Cup Woe for Partick
09 August 2011 - 21:16:08
Partick gave up their 2010 Western Crown suffering a heavy defeat to Glenpark - worthy winners - tonight at West.
The visitors scored 110 for 8 in their 20 overs. In reply Partick were 4-1, 14-4 and at 18 Cammy Gibb had to retire hurt with a knee injury, The score became 19-6 but a stand of 27 for the 7th wicket when Simon Brown was run out lifted hopes - slightly!! However the innings disintegrated once more and with Cammy Gibb returning at the non strikers end - with Sprog as a runner - for the last wicket Glenpark bowled Partick out for a miserly 53 in 14.1 overs.

Law of Physics Linked to the Placing of Covers!
08 August 2011 - 17:19:26
A message from Hon Curator, Tom Anderson
Only in exceptional circumstances does water flow uphill. For those of you who haven't yet twigged, Hamilton Crescent is on a slope and therefore the covers need to be put on with the hoses at the lowest point. If this does not happen the rainwater will flow down the trough, reach the end and find nowhere to go because the hoses are at the other end. The water will simply build up and overflow on to the wicket.
The u13s match tonight has had to be cancelled because the only pitch which we could have worked on would have been the one which was covered (properly). T A
So there we are - hopefully the covers are now on correctly for tomorrow night's Western Cup Tie.

The Rain Defeats McCrea FS West, Uddingston and Just About Everyone Else!
06 August 2011 - 20:41:18
The Scottish summer reverted to normal today as rain swept up from England.
At Uddingston, the home team, after winning the toss, were bowled out in 46.2 overs for 223 by McCrea FS West. Uddy's Sri Lankan Pro scored 48 and Callum McLeod (53) joined him in a 3rd wicket partnership of 85. Alecz Day scored 28 while The Pirate took 3 for 45, Colin de Pro 2 for 20, Youngy 2 for 36, Cranny 2 for 44. Gurjit continued his promise with 1 for 25 in 7 overs.
41 extras were in Uddy's total, including 25 wides and our fielding was pretty pedestrian at times.
Was 223 enough? We shall never know because the rains came during the tea interval and the game became another victim of Cricket Season 2011's precipitation disease!!
Only Aberdeenshire who beat Clydesdale at Titwood and Stirling County who beat Ayr at Williamfield beat the deluge.. This all leads to a very interesting 13th August - the final Saturday before the dreaded League Split is finalised.
Watch this space for what can happen next week!

Partick Beat the Rain - and Moorcroft
06 August 2011 - 20:33:30
Partick continued their winning run in the SNCL Reserve League with an easy win over Moorcroft at Renfrew. Moorcroft were bowled out for 129 - Miro Ralston took 3 wickets and Cammy 2. It only took the evergreen Dom Gallacher (75no) - his score, not his age! - and the re-emerging Colin Dalziel (42no) 13.1 overs to amass 134 without loss. So a 10 wicket victory before the rains came - and yet another early return to the West Bar. Well done, everyone but it would be good to see a strong game of cricket and this League certainly is too weak to provide that possibility on a regular basis!!!
