  • Sunday 14th August An Important Event in Edinburgh
    04 August 2011 - 18:04:06
Just a short prior note for your diaries
    .
West under 18s will play Carlton in Edinburgh (Grange Loan) on Sunday
14th August in the Quarter Final of the Under 18 National Cup.
Game starts at 10am so a great reason for dusting off the cobwebs from the previous night's "Not the End of Season Party" at West and following the M8 East to support our youngsters.

  • Another Weekend's Cricket Approaches!
    04 August 2011 - 17:55:56
Weather forecast could be better - could be worse!

McCrea FS West travel to Bothwell Castle Policies to play Uddingston in the second last SNCL match before the league split. A win appears to be rather important!
Partick, too, travel - due to the wonderful fixture planning of 2011 (not AB's fault, I might add!!) and play Moorcroft (that's Renfrew 2s for the uninitiated).

This means Hamilton Crescent is vacant and so we are pleased to host the Hillhead v Helensburgh Western Union game. If you are not going to Uddingston, Renfrew or Murrayfield, why not visit West. All these games start at 1pm

Sunday morning sees the gathering of youngsters from many clubs throughout the West of Scotland for a Kwik Cricket festival hosted by WSCC from 10am.
Well worth a visit to support the players - and their parents!
In the afternoon, the 3s play Queens Park again (definitely QP!) in a league match starting at 2pm and on Wednesday the 3s are in action once more, this time hoping to beat Glasgow Accies in the Evening League.

PS A REMINDER TO ALL TO GET THESE DRAW TICKETS SOLD AND RETURNED TO ME ASAP IN TIME FOR THE DRAW ON SAT 13TH AUGUST.

  • 3s v Queens Park - Result
    03 August 2011 - 21:17:10
Another league defeat for 3s tonight as they lose by 7 wickets at Hamilton Crescent to Queens Park.
The 3s made 127 for 4 in their 18 overs. Jats (36), Chris Ross (28), Bala (21) and a swashbuckling 26 from Gurjit provided a challenge for the visitors.
Queens Park responded with power right from the start. 34 for 1 became 75 for 2 and a 3rd wicket stand of 48 which featured man of many clubs, Mohammad Iddris, who eventually fell for 41 at 123 in the 17th over. The game finished later in that over with a boundary hit bringing Queens Park's winning total to 130 for 3.
With rain forecast overnight, George Dickson arrived to make sure that the wickets for the weekend were fully protected. I understand sheets are to be used as there can be no problems with hoses!!

Weather permitting I understand the 3s are entertaining Queens Park in a Strathclyde Evening League match tomorrow Wednesday, 3rd August.

Still trying to glean from the Match Secretary future West League Cup fixtures for McCrea FS West. When I know, so will you!!

  • Sat 13th August - Grand Summer Draw and "Not the End of Season" Party
    01 August 2011 - 20:52:02
The Grand Summer Draw takes place at 10pm on Saturday 13th August 2011 in the Clubhouse during the "Not the End of Season Party" which starts at the end of the McCrea FS West v Clydesdale SNCL match.

Let's have a great attendance - especially in this our 150th Season. Bruce's Disco will provide the music - so let's make it a really good West extravaganza!!

So far there is a distinct lack of returned Draw Books!! Thanks to those who have sold and returned theirs.

To all those who still have them please make sure they are returned to me - SOLD - by 8pm on Sat 13th in an envelope behind the Bar. If anyone has not received book (s) they are available from the Bar.

With only 11 days to go, we need a real effort, to maximise sales for the Draw. I know I can rely on you all to produce a result! Many thanks

  • Weekend Cricket Action Part 3
    01 August 2011 - 17:52:11

The 3s entertained Torrance at West on Sunday and won a friendly match by 139 runs. I am pleased to introduce another Special Correspondent - August Pandey - who has sent the report on the proceedings.

Given the weather forecast it was great to get full 80 over’s of cricket.

Andy Galloway and Chris Ross gave us a solid start with both getting 30 plus scores. We played attacking cricket while keeping wickets in hand. We were 150/2 in 21 over’s at one point and looked like even getting 300. I enjoyed playing at no. 3 and got 46 runs (should have held back the urge to hit a ball over mid-on and got my 50). Shiva, Johan and Cammie Ireland contributed with score of 20+. Miro played very well to get 52 not out. We reached 260 in 40 overs for 5 wickets.

Bowling and fielding was good from the team. Opposition were not looking to win the game it seems and played the full 40 overs. John McDermott , Craig Walker (bowled very well, bowling 3 maidens in a row) and Andy Galloway picked up 1 wicket each as we won the game by 139 in the end. 8 bowlers were used in the game giving everyone a chance. Siva did a fine job wicket keeping, and certainly gives us an option in future games if needed.

They were a decent opposition to play against (up there with most sides which play in the 3rds) and the Ausi opener was a good batman, with 2-3 good bowlers too.

Just from my side, thanks for the opportunity to captain and I enjoyed it.

And we enjoyed your report, August - Many thanks.

  • Weekend Cricket Action Part 2
    01 August 2011 - 17:46:40
McCrea FS West lost to Forfarshire on Saturday by 2 wickets in a very tight finish in their latest SNCL match.
A 3rd wicket stand between Youngy (33) and the Pro (60) of 96 put the home team in a strong position to post a big total. After Colin went at 133, Andrew Umeed (54) continued his superb form of 2011 but McCrea FS West had to be contented with a 50 over total of 233 - perhaps a bit light!
Forfarshire started off very quickly and the openers put on 50. The slow bowling of Spegsy held them back for a while with Spegsy's magnificent googly deceiving Graeme Garden who played no shot and was bowled.
Ryan Watson continued to accumulate menacingly and was given good support from his teammates as Forfarshire neared a winning score. Youngsters Andrew Umeed 10 overs, 1 for 47 and Gurjit Sandhu 7 overs, 2 for 19 bowled really well but Watson accelerated later in the innings before being bowled by Iain Cran for 101 at 222.
Forfarshire needed 9 to win from the last over and 2 to win from the last ball of the match. Unfortunately, the Pirate was clipped to the square leg boundary and McCrea FS West had lost yet another close finish. Congratulations to Forfarshire in winning an excellent contest. SNCL in its last rites? I don't think so.

  • Weekend Cricket Action Part 1
    31 July 2011 - 20:48:59
Partick beat East Kilbride for the second successive Saturday. In another one sided match EK were bowled out for 54. Simon Brown 4 for 24, Max Ralston
3 for 6 and Cammy (before his early night!!) 2 for 3. In response Partick won by 8 wickets. After being at 8 for 2, Cammy Gibb and Keegan Moras saw the victors through - ready for an early return to West to watch the Ones in glorious weather.

McCrea FS West lost to Forfarshire by 2 wickets off the last ball of the game, remaining 11th in the SNCL Table. More to follow later........

  • Some More Cricket Action - Past and Forthcoming!
    27 July 2011 - 21:25:49
On Tuesday evening McCrea FS West beat Drumpellier by 1 run in the West League Cup at Langloan. We scored 105 for 6 in 20 overs - Jats 26 and Duncan Williams, making a welcome return 39, shared a 3rd wicket stand of 61.
Drumps narrowly missed their target by ending on 104 for 5. The Pirate took 2 for 26 and Leg Spinner (so he tells me) Cammy Gibb took 2 for 28.
I think we are still in this competition. We have 2 games to play and await Adam Bell's confirmation of when they will be played.

Tuesday also saw the 3s losing to Queens Park. 179 to QP with a total of 152 from the 3s falling short. Sedgwick was again in the runs - around 80 perhaps!
Tonight (Wed) the 3s played Victoria and succumbed again. We scored 105 for 8, Jonny Graham 25, Sprog 21 and Max Ralston 15 not out. Victoria smashed their way to win by 7 wickets, Max again to the fore with 2 wickets and Gavin Smith 1.
This weekend sees McCrea FS West looking to maintain last weeks standards when they face Forfarshire at home. Partick travel to East Kilbride to play EK for the second successive Saturday. On Sunday the 3s play Torrance at West in a friendly and we wish Hillhead well in their SCU Trophy semi final at Whitehaugh against Fauldhouse.
