  • Cricket This Week
    12 July 2011 - 20:54:37
While the 150th Season Challenge Match was played in almost perfect conditions last Sunday at West, unfortunately the rain fell on the parade of the 3s and their Sunday League match at Shawholm was abandoned.
Last night (Monday) the under 18s travelled to and beat Renfrew by 14 runs.

On Wednesday the 3s entertain Weirs at Hamilton Crescent in an Evening League match and the following evening at the same ground it is the turn of the under 18s to play Glasgow Accies in a Cup match.

Let's see a good support for these games.

  • 150th Anniversary Season Challenge Match - see Blog
    12 July 2011 - 18:05:55
The Challenge Match between McCrea FS West and Cricket Scotland President's XI at Hamilton Crescent on Sunday 10th July 2011 was played in mostly warm sunshine in front of a good crowd, including past and present West members and players and enthusiastic junior members of West and their parents.

Please see the blog for David Potter's accurate report on what happened!!

Thanks are due to Bob McFarlane, CS President and Craig Wright and all his team, for their attendance and support of this event. The game was played in the spirit of yesteryear Sunday matches and Bob McFarlane presented Gordon Smith with a special quaich as a momento of the occasion.

Thanks also to the Outside Edgers for their work on the BBQ which sold out - always a sign of good food!

Quality "150 not out WSCC Polo Shirts" at £24.50 are still available from me. Contact me quickly on johnr.thomson@btinternet.co.uk to secure a shirt as stocks are now limited.

  • Another Win for Partick
    10 July 2011 - 10:34:31
Partick beat Ayr by 8 wickets yesterday at Hamilton Crescent on a fine summers day, while the SNCL clash between Watsonians and McCrea FS West was a victim of the wet weather in the East.
Ayr were bowled out for 162 and, thanks to a fine 59 not out from Cammy Gibb, Partick edged the game on 163 for 8.
Today sees Hamilton Crescent XI travel to Poloc in a Strathclyde League Match and. of course, at Hamilton Crescent - at 2pm - McCrea FS West take on Cricket Scotland Presidents XI in the 150th Season Challenge Match.

  • Last Night's Hillhead/West Sports Quiz
    09 July 2011 - 10:01:50
Thanks to all who supported the first joint Hillhead/West fundraiser. It was a very successful night with around £300 raised. Thanks to Raman and Bernie (and anyone else at Hillhead who helped to arrange the event). Not without controversy, though!!!

Do Manderston CC really play at Cumledge?
According to my 1990 Scottish Cricket Guide - a tomb not to be argued with - Manderston CC play at MANDERSTON!!

The West Quiz Inquisitors will organise another of these Joint Quiz Evenings in the Autumn. Watch this space.
