Juniors Introduction
The Club has an active Junior Section with teams competing in the Western Union Under 11, Under 13, Under 15,
and Under 18 Leagues. We also play in the Under 18 Frank Smith Trophy, and the National Under 13, Under 15
and Under 18 Knock Out Cup Competitions. In addition our Under 10s enjoy Sunday morning kwik cricket festivals
throughout the summer. We will continue also to promote girls’ cricket in 2010.
We have achieved and retained TopClub Bronze status and are working towards a Silver award.
On the playing front, we enjoyed a mixed season in 2009 with bad weather causing a fair bit of disruption. However, our U11 and U13 teams finished in the top four of their respective league competitions and the Under 13s reached the semi finals of the Scottish Cup. We had a good number of our juniors involved in representative cricket, with Anjan Luthra and Gavin Smith representing Scotland U17s, Andrew Umeed enjoying European Championship success with Scotland U15s, and Lynne Dickson captaining Scotland Girls U17s.
The Club is always keen to recruit new young players, including girls, and we have greatly expanded our
coaching programme for local primary schools over recent years. Any youngster who is interested is welcome
to come along to our Monday Night Coaching Sessions. During the winter months we have structured indoor net
sessions for our different age groups at least three times a week from 6pm to 7.30pm, but once the light and
weather permit, practice takes place outdoors from 6pm to 8pm. These sessions are overseen by our Junior
Convener, Jim Young, (see Contacts), and are under the direction of Club Coach, Isaac Umeed, supported by
qualified coaches Tony Lewis, Gregg Watson , Jonny Graham, Stewart Leggat, and Ian Young, and qualified
introductory helpers Wilson Galloway and Jon Williams and, during the summer, the Club Professional and
Overseas Amateur, and other Senior Players. For details about Junior subscriptions, go to our
membership page.
