Hamilton Cresent Run Out in Preseason Fixture
By David Hinchliffe
First win of the season for West
The 2019 season kicked off at Glenpark as Hamilton Crescent travelled for a 30 over pre-season friendly.
Having lost the toss, the side were bowling first with Rhys Snodgrass taking a wicket in the first over. Opening from the other was Ross Wilson on debut taking a his first wicket for the club in only the second over of the game.
Ross finished his spell with 3-21 marking an excellent start to his West career. With Rhys taking 2-17 after his opening spell West were establishing a dominant position early on, the bowlers being backed up some great fielding, the highlight being Richard Wing's diving one handed catch at Gully which he somehow made look casual.
On next were Liam Howgate and Tommy Suslak finishing with figures of 2-4 and 1-28 respectively. A brilliant diving stop and run out from Duncan Sutherland and a catch from Ross Wilson rounded off an impressive fielding display before Mike Ashworth took the final wicket with an LBW and figures of 1-7.
The second innings started well with openers Sandeep Dhayade (37*) and Duncan Sutherland (36*) both retiring, with some hefty blows from Sandeep partnered with an intelligent display from Duncan. Richard Wing (4) was unfortunate to be out LBW becore Chris Ross (18*) and Amol Deshmukh (24*) completed the chase as the Hamilton Crescent XI recorded the first outdoor win of the season for the club.
An honourable mention for Rohit Haldar on debut who was unfortunate not to get a chance to bat or bowl due to game circumstance but who backed up the team in the field and we hope to see him in action with the bat soon.
Lastly, big thanks to Greenock for their hard work getting the ground ready and always offer a warm welcome!
Hamilton Crescent next play vs Kirkstyle on 27th April in their first game of their Division 4 campaign at New Williamfield.
