Partick Make Semi Final

31 run win over Kelburne.

Partick progressed to the semi final stage of the Greenwood Trophy with a 31 runs win over Whitehaugh at Hamilton Crescent. In the first of three meetings between the two sides in 10 days, skipper Rob Corner won the toss and chose to bat on a used wicket.

Partick progressed steadily to 51-1 after eight overs before losing Miller for 17. Coats joined Corner at the crease. The wicket was becoming harder to bat on as Whitehaugh realised pace off the ball was the way to go. Corner continued his midweek form and brought up 50 in the 14th over, only to be dismissed in the next over for 52 trying to clear the ropes. Some late hitting from Etheridge and Coats saw Partick reach 143 from their 20 overs.

Whitehaugh started their reply well, keeping up with the rate with some big shots down the ground by O’Connell helping them move to 28 without loss, before Sandhu struck with his first ball of the game. From then on, Whitehaugh struggled to stay on top of the rate and found the boundary with less regularity. Ashworth picked up 3 wickets in the middle overs with some smart bowling to help close off the game.

Whitehaugh eventually finishing their 20 overs on 112-6.

Partick will play Victoria in the semi final on the 18th July at Hamilton Crescent. This will be a repeat of last years fixture where Partick won by three runs so come down and support the team on their push to the final!
