From the Dressing Room: Partick make it six from six
Opener Sam Jakobson on our second XI’s victory over league leaders Whitehaugh.
After a shaky start to the season, a 6 match unbeaten run has dragged Partick back into contention for the Championship One title. With Whitehaugh and Titwood within a few percentage points of the top spot. Partick needing to win every remaining game to stay within touching distance.
On warm and cloudy Paisley day Partick captain, Chris Ross, wins the toss and elects to bat. It was a shaky start after some tidy bowling from Whitehaugh, Patrick 4 down with only 28 on the board. The wicket proving to be more difficult to bat on than expected. In at number 5 Andy Galloway starts as he means to go on with some booming drives, making it look particularly easy. Andy continues to rack up the runs with a crucial 56 off 58. However these runs were not supported at the other end as regular wickets continue to fall. Partick stutter to 120-9, Whitehaugh very much on top. Partick's league hopes seemingly slipping away.
Number 10 and 11, Jainill Vadalia and Gurjit Singh, then show the rest of the team how it's done. Some very sensible strike rotation from Jainill and powerful hitting from Gurj, add a fantastic 46 to the total. 166 off the 50. Whitehaugh now have a total to chase, it's game on.
Partick make a phenomenal start with ball from Dave McNulty and Ekaansh Kapila. Wickets hard to come by but runs off the bat are none existent.
It was one of the best opening spells I have been a part of at West. Ekaansh absolutely unplayable, every ball was a wicket taker. Pace, bounce movement off the seam, stood in slip I was expecting the edge every ball. He could have had 5 but the batsmen couldn't get near it.
Partick on top but with Whitehaugh only one down with 65 on the board, they seemed to have weathered the storm. Grinding down with scoreboard pressure was the order of the afternoon. Quick overs from Ben Cole and Jonny Williams squeezing Whitehaugh to finally make mistakes.
Jonny Williams finally breaking the long partnership, opening up an end to attack. Wickets then fell consistently, 3 for Jonny and 4 for Ben. After some very tight bowling and almost faultless in the field, it was too much for Whitehaugh. Falling to 107 all out.
It was another fantastic win for Partick. The march goes on. Results elsewhere in the league have set it up for an extremely close finish, likely to go down to the last game of the season.
