Saturday
Allied Vehicles West of Scotland produced an impressive run chase to defeat Ayr by four wickets at New Cambusdoon. Having won the toss and elected to field, West made early inroads as the home side slipped to 46 for 4. Mekyle Pillay starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 24, while Oscar Fry, Anthony Hulatt and vice-captain John Strachan all chipped in with two wickets apiece. Ayr recovered well though through Jake Woodhouse, whose 43 helped lift the hosts to 210 all out. In reply, Pillay completed an outstanding all-round performance with a composed 57 from 83 balls to lay the foundations for the chase before Moneeb Iqbal accelerated West towards victory with a fluent 43 from just 47 deliveries. Jesse Mills (28*) and James Fennah (2*) then calmly guided West over the line to seal a four wicket win and lift the club into third place in the Premiership One table.
At Hamilton Crescent, the Partick XI returned to winning ways with a convincing six wicket victory over Cambusdoon. The visitors elected to bat first and looked well placed at 71 for 3, but an excellent bowling display from West turned the game on its head. Gurjit Singh was the standout performer with 3 for 13, well supported by Innes Algie (2 for 37), before Athsham Hussain produced a two over cameo, claiming 2 for 13, as Cambusdoon were dismissed for 124. In reply, opener Avaneesh Yilapavanam anchored the chase with a patient 62 from 104 balls, steering West to the brink of victory, before James Scott's unbeaten 22 guided the hosts over the line with six wickets to spare. The win keeps Partick third in the Championship Division One table.
In Championship Division Two, the Hamilton Crescent XI made short work of an eight-player Glenpark side, cruising to an eight wicket victory in Stirling. Having been asked to bowl first, West's 3rd XI quickly took control, restricting the visitors to just 49 all out. Mamoon Hussain was the standout performer, returning excellent figures of 3 for 8. In reply, the chase was never in doubt as the ever-impressive Shaheer Hussain continued his outstanding run of form, blasting an unbeaten 38 from just 18 balls, including seven fours and a six, to seal victory inside just five overs. The comprehensive win lifts Hamilton Crescent into fourth place in the Championship Division Two table at the halfway stage of the season.
Sunday
On Sunday, West Women’s 2nd XI bowed out of the Women’s Challenger Cup after a challenging game against holders Carlton. The home side proved why they lifted the trophy last season with a dominant all-round display, although there were still positives for West to take. Debutant Daisy Beddall top scored with a determined 6 from 12 balls, while Olivia McGhee impressed in the field, claiming two wickets and taking a catch in an excellent individual performance.
The Sunday XI, meanwhile, completed a league double over Ferguslie with a four wicket victory at Hamilton Crescent. Having been asked to bowl first, West made an excellent start as Sam McMillan, Nakul Jain and Adhrit Singh all struck early to dismantle the visitors' top order. Ferguslie were eventually dismissed for 121, with old timers campaigners Rizwan Hussain and Andrew Strong also claiming a wicket apiece. The chase was once again led by West's emerging talent, as Athsham Hussain (38), Thomas Kitchen (25) and Sam McMillan (10) guided the hosts to 77 for 1. Although a brief middle-order wobble threatened to make the finish more interesting than expected, an unbeaten 10 from Daniel Corbett helped steer West to victory with four wickets to spare. Attention now turns to next Sunday, when the XL Club visit Hamilton Crescent to contest the annual John Cameron Trophy.
