The Forecast: Women’s finals day and West visit Langside

The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!

A jam packed weekend of cricket coming up for our all our senior sides.

Saturday

Women's Scottish Cup Finals Day

In Stirling, our Women’s side take part in the Beyond Boundaries Scottish T20 Cup finals day. They face stiff opposition in their semi final as championship winners Watsonians/Dumfries Women await at 11am. The omens are good, however, as it was a ten wicket victory over Watsonians that saw them lift the trophy back in 2023. Semi final progress would see them face either Stewart’s Melville or Grange Women in a 3pm start. Good luck all!

Langside vs West of Scotland XI

Meanwhile, James Fennah’s Western Premiership Two leaders take the short trip to take on Langside at Albert Park. The southside club currently sit 7th in the table after a run of inconsistent form, most recently resulting in a 49 run defeat at Glasgow Accies last Saturday. The reverse fixture failed to survive wet conditions earlier in the season - but West will go in to the game bouyed by a recent run of close wins. Sajid Khan is expected to feature with the ball for Langside, having taken 16 wickets this season.

Partick XI vs Albert Park

Meanwhile, Langside’s second string make the reverse journey to face a Partick XI still in the hunt for the Western Championship One title. An early abandonment prevented a result between these sides earlier in the season but Albert Park are currently in 8th place in the league with 3 wins from their 9 completed fixtures. Despite a good start to the season Albert Park have struggled recently with 1 win in 5 but will hope that top run scorer Ghulam Raja and wicket taker Pratul Choudhary can come up with the goods.

Anniesland vs Hamilton Crescent XI

It’s a short journey across town for Hamilton Crescent too as they face Anniesland in a west end derby. Moosa Vakil’s side returned to winning ways last week with a five wicket victory over Meikleriggs so will look to strengthen their position with an away win. This game was rained off with Anniesland seeming set for victory earlier in the season having bowled our 3s out for just 122. Bowler Rana Rehan promises to be a dangerman for the home side having taken 13 league wickets this season and his side still remain an outside bet for promotion.

Sunday

West of Scotland XI v Western Baths

On Sunday, Hamilton Crescent hosts its annual fixture with representatives the Western Baths. The sports and health club based on Cranworth Street are a great supporter of the club and the August game is always a fun match played in good spirits. West’s Sunday captain Rizwan Hussain will look to continue his good form, having taken two sparkling catches last Sunday against Mearns, as he leads the side out. All are invited along to give their encouragement and show their appreciation to both sides.
