The Forecast: Partick vs Titwood tops Week 3’s Fixtures Card
The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!
Partick XI skipper Jonathan Williams will be raring to go on Saturday after last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Cambusdoon. This weekend’s fixture against Titwood has often proved decisive in the league title race in recent years.
In 2024, it was Titwood who came out on top, dismantling Partick’s batting line-up as Daiwik Kumar took four for 11 to dismiss them for just 91. Titwood chased the target comfortably, winning by seven wickets. Partick went on to lose again against Albert Park, but it was Titwood who failed to capitalise, losing three times and ultimately handing Partick the Championship Trophy.
Williams will be hoping for a much stronger showing with the bat this time around. He will be boosted by the return of Junaid Malik and Avaneesh Yilapavanam. Avaneesh drops down after an impressive start in the 1XI, due to school cricket commitments.
This is not one to miss. With the weather set to remain hot and sunny, it promises to be a real spectacle.
A team that has not tasted 50-over defeat yet is the West of Scotland XI. This Saturday they travel to Glenpark, home of Greenock Cricket Club, who finished fourth in the league last year. Greenock matches have often been entertaining. None more so than Gavin Smith’s incredible five wickets in five balls back in 2019. You can watch it here.
This year, Greenock have only played once, with Kilmarnock easing to a five-wicket win in 35 overs. Greenock will be up for it, and West will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the table. The team remains settled, with the only change being Callum Dutia coming into the league side for the first time this season.
The final Saturday fixture sees our Hamilton Crescent XI travel to New Williamfield to face The Tryst. One poor and one great batting performance each have led to a win and a loss for both sides so far. There is everything to play for this weekend.
On Sunday, the Women’s XI will be looking to move off the bottom of the Women’s Premier League as they host Stewart’s Melville at Hamilton Crescent. It will not be an easy task. Stewart’s Melville posted 320-1 last weekend, with two centurions, and won their opening match by ten wickets chasing a low total. However, Nadia Tolliday will take confidence from her team’s opening weekend batting display and will hope for more of the same this time out.
The Women’s 2XI are also in action on Sunday. They head in the opposite direction to face Prestwick in Ayrshire in the Women’s Challenger League.
Finally, on Sunday our Sunday XI will play a friendly against Ferguslie in Paisley.
As always, the bar and clubhouse will be open from 12pm on both days - all are welcome.
