The Forecast: Scottish Cup Holders at West on Sunday

The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!

This Sunday, Scottish Cup holders Heriot’s make the trip west to Hamilton Crescent to face West of Scotland in the second round of the national knockout. In Round 1, Heriot’s cruised past Stewart’s Melville with a commanding 175-run win at Goldenacre, thanks in large part to a brilliant 108 from L Brown.

West also batted first in their opener, posting 194 against Stirling with S Page anchoring the innings with an impressive 83. A tidy all-round effort with the ball secured a 60-run victory — setting the stage nicely for this weekend’s clash. A good crowd is expected for what should be a cracking contest between two proud clubs.

That’s the only fixture on Sunday, with both the Women’s XI and Sunday XI enjoying a weekend off. But Saturday is a busy one, with three matches across the board.

West of Scotland XI v Renfrew

It’s top-of-the-table stuff at Hamilton Crescent as the West XI host Renfrew in what could be a key moment in the league campaign. The team will be looking to respond from a midweek defeat to Stenhousemuir with a sharper, more professional display. The side is largely unchanged, with A Yilapavanam returning from a spell with the Partick XI.

Partick XI v Kelburne 2s (away)

After last week’s win over Titwood, J Williams will be looking to keep momentum going as Partick travel to Whitehaugh to take on Kelburne’s second string.

In this fixture last year, S Anwar and G Etheridge had a field day, combining for 9-30 from 20 overs as Kelburne were skittled for just 49. The chase was over in a flash, but a repeat of that one-sided affair seems unlikely. Instead, Williams will hope his batters can post a strong total again before the bowlers go to work.

A couple of changes this week: S Mohammad makes his Partick XI debut, and R Krishnan returns to the fold following his university exams.

Hamilton Crescent XI v Nunholm (away)

M Kaushik leads his side south to Dumfries for a scenic away day against Nunholm. It’s always a great trip to one of the best venues in the country. A warm welcome to A Carswell, who makes his West of Scotland debut and will be looking to make an immediate impact with the bat.

All matches start at 12pm, and the Clubhouse & Bar will be open both days — so come down, enjoy some cricket, and get behind West!
