The Forecast: Scottish Cup Holders at West on Sunday (Again!)
The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!
Well, we could nearly copy and paste last week’s preview after an absolute washout across the country! Thankfully, Sunday’s rescheduled Scottish Cup clash with Heriot’s looks set to finally go ahead, with the forecast looking much kinder in the run-up. You can read the full preview here.
But before that, we’ve got three Saturday fixtures lined up and after all the time spent watching the rain, the squads will be desperate to get back out there.
Helensburgh v West of Scotland XI
The 1st XI heads west to Helensburgh, and it’s a big one with captain James Fennah returning from his travels in Thailand.
Helensburgh were one of the few sides to get a game in last weekend — though they might have wished otherwise after being bowled out for just 73 and losing by nine wickets. That result leaves them with just one win from four and sitting 9th in the table. That said, they shouldn’t be underestimated — they racked up 256 in their season opener with contributions across the board.
Partick XI v Hughenden
Back at Hamilton Crescent, the Partick XI welcome Hughenden, another side with a 1-3 record but who’ve arguably performed better than their position suggests.
As with many sides across Scotland, batting has been the issue and J Williams will be challenging his lineup to take full advantage of that. Coming off a solid showing against Titwood, the group will be hoping for more of the same this weekend.
Meikleriggs v Hamilton Crescent XI
The final Saturday fixture sees the Hamilton Crescent XI travel to Paisley to face Meikleriggs - a team the Sunday XI faced a couple of weekends ago in a tight contest.
M Vakil’s men will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing outing last Saturday with both bat and ball. The Paisley side are still looking for their first win of the season but have been competitive in every match, so they'll be fired up on home turf. If West can click in both departments, there’s every chance they’ll return down the M8 with a result.
All matches start at 12pm, and as always, the Clubhouse & Bar will be open both days. Come along, soak up some sun (hopefully), and support the West!
Women’s 1XI v Grange – Rearranged Fixture
The Women’s 1XI were originally scheduled to host Grange at Hamilton Crescent on Sunday. However, due to the Scottish Cup clash, this fixture will be moved to be an away fixture.
Galloway v Women’s 2XI – Challenger League
The Women’s 2XI are on the road this Sunday as they head south to face Galloway in the Challenger League. A great opportunity for the squad to build momentum and get valuable game time under their belts.
