Clydesdale inflicted a double defeat on West as winning spells came to an end across the club.

Saturday

The Allied Vehicles West of Scotland XI suffered an agonising one wicket defeat in a tense league encounter with Elston Clydesdale at Hamilton Crescent. Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first, West battled hard in warm conditions to post 151 all out from 49.1 overs with boundaries at a premium throughout the innings. Vice captain Rafay Khan was the standout performer with the ball for the visitors, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 20, while wicketkeeper Junaid Malik top scored for West with a patient 44 from 72 deliveries. In reply, West fought back superbly with the ball, reducing The Dale to 83 for 8, with Tony Hulatt claiming 3 for 23. However, stubborn lower order resistance turned the game once again. Number nine batter Lukas Fischer-Keogh made a valuable 28 before Zeeshan Bashir and Sahir Hussain held their nerve to guide Clydesdale over the line in dramatic fashion with just one wicket remaining.

The Partick XI were also defeated on the return trip to Titwood, falling to a 91 run loss against Clydesdale’s 2nd XI. Having elected to bat first, the hosts made an aggressive start through opener Arman Farid’s 44 before late contributions from Gregor Anderson (34), Rohan Dhami (36 not out) and Abdul Haris (30 not out) helped propel the innings to 275 for 8 from 50 overs. Santhosh Kadavath, Innes Algie and Jainill Vadalia each claimed two wickets for Partick. In reply, an opening stand of 46 between Matt Farr (12) and Ben Cole (41) gave Partick a solid platform, but despite further resistance from James Scott’s 31, West’s second eleven were unable to maintain the required momentum and closed on 184 for 8.

A high scoring encounter in Dumfries saw the Hamilton Crescent XI fall to defeat against Nunholm despite at one stage looking in control of a significant run chase. Ronan Dunbar starred for the hosts with a magnificent 95, including nine fours and four sixes, as Nunholm’s second XI posted 242 for 6 from their 40 overs. Lewis Oliver was the pick of the West bowlers with 2 for 36, although the home side batted positively throughout. In reply, Shaheer Hussain (57) and “Cobra” Rehan Mirza Ahmed (40) launched a fierce counter attack, sharing six sixes between them to put West’s 3rd side firmly in contention. However, after both fell, further resistance from Akshat Fondekar (24) and captain Moosa Vakil (21) was not enough to carry the visitors over the line, with Finley Trigg starring for Nunholm with figures of 3 for 27.

Sunday

West were eliminated from the Scottish Cup on Sunday as Elston Clydesdale won by 182 runs in the Quarter Finals. West’s nemesis with the ball on Saturday, Rafay Khan, proved his all rounder status with 85 from 99 balls with support provided by Ali Khan (58) and Isaac Rahman (41). West lost regular wickets in reply and despite a classy 24 from Junaid Malik they were never really in the run chase as Khan turned in 4/27 for the visitors to limit West to 114 for 9 before Oscar Fry was forced to retire hurt ending proceedings.

West Women suffered their first defeat of the season losing by seven wickets at RHC Lynx. Despite Lauren Payas scoring 26 not out and 20 from Imogen Fox for the visitors they were only able to post 90 all out as Rodé deNysschen took three wickets for just ten runs for Lynx. Caitlin-Rose Neil made short shrift of the run chase scoring 49 not out, and despite two wickets for Nadia Tolliday, Lynx ran home winners with 23 overs to spare.

There was better news for the Women’s 2nd XI in Stenhousemuir as they beat their hosts by 30 runs. Both openers Azka Fiaz and Zunaira Suman retired with unbeaten 30s as West posted 119/2 from their 20 overs, before wickets from Suman and Inaya Hussain helped restrict Stenhousemuir to 89/3.
