From the Dressing Room: Partick extend unbeaten run

Our latest guest writer Andrew Galloway reviews last weekend’s Partick XI win at home to St Ninians.

It was a low scoring affair as the undefeated  Partick XI hosted Prestwick 2nd XI on a day that was always under time pressure due to a prearranged late start and a forecast late afternoon downpour.

Prestwick won the toss and chose to bat and despite a couple of early boundaries from Fraser Rodger, who reached 12 before being dismissed early by Oscar Fry (2/17), it was clear the game-plan was to ‘park the bus’. Gavin Pitt (17* off 56 balls) was the only other notable score in an innings of 59 runs from 33.1 overs (including 10 maidens). The Partick fielders did well to remain awake and were occasionally startled by semi-regular wickets. A superb bowling performance by the bowlers but it was the slightly seasoned spinners Calum Dutia 3/14 off 8 overs & Ben Cole 4/3 off 5.1 overs that took home the majority of the spoils.

Heading straight back out, the Partick batsmen really had their chance to make their mark on the league. However a train wreck of a start raised cause for concern with 2 early wickets and no runs off the bat in the first 4 overs. This followed by another 2 wickets making the innings more resemble a game of Duck Duck Goose rather than a cricket match.  Young opener Ramsey Brown (20), the much needed Goose in a busy pond. Fortunately an in form James Scott (14*) followed by Andrew Galloway (12*) were able to steady the ship and see the boys home.
