The Forecast: Partick title chase heats up

The Forecast is series of weekend previews for the 2026 season. We cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!

With just two Saturdays of the league season remaining, there is still plenty to play for across our sides.

Saturday

Shimla Cottage Drumpellier vs Allied Vehicles West of Scotland

Our first XI travel to Coatbridge this weekend to face mid-table Shimla Cottage Drumpellier, looking to build on the form that saw them defeat Kelburne last Saturday. Mekyle Pillay produced a man-of-the-match performance for West, taking six wickets before smashing an unbeaten 42 in an emphatic eight-wicket victory. Drumpellier, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after a difficult afternoon at GHK, where they collapsed to just 42 all out before suffering a seven-wicket defeat. The two sides are yet to face each other in the league this season after their scheduled meeting in June was washed out by the Scottish summer.

Partick XI vs Langloan

Meanwhile, Langloan make the reverse trip to Hamilton Crescent to take on Championship One form side Partick XI. Last week’s victory over table toppers Whitehaugh, our 2s sixth win in a row, reignited hopes of a title push as Partick leapfrogged Titwood into 2nd in the table. Chris Ross’s side will look to make it seven ahead of a final day showdown at Cambusdoon next week. Langloan, meanwhile, sit 4th in the table following a 3-wicket defeat at home to GHK Strathclyde. Muhammad Nadeem top scored with 62* before 3 wickets for Mandeep Singh took Langloan to the brink of victory, but an 81 run 8th wicket stand saw GHK’s second string take the points. Play starts at 12pm in Glasgow with some early sun forecast.

Hamilton Crescent XI vs M8 Driving Ferguslie 2nd XI

Our 3rd XI are looking over their shoulder with just two weeks of the season remaining as they face promotion-chasing M8 Driving Ferguslie 2nd XI. Defeat in Hamilton Crescent’s previous outing, away to Anniesland, has left them precariously positioned above the relegation places, with plenty still to play for in the closing stages of the season. M8 Driving Ferguslie 2nd XI, meanwhile, were beaten by Woodhall East Kilbride last weekend despite half-centuries from Jamie Rennie and Satvik Varunkumar in the middle order. Ferguslie’s second side won the reverse fixture earlier in the season by three wickets, thanks to a determined batting display from Gregor Preston-Jones.

Sunday

Grampian Thistles v West of Scotland Women

West of Scotland Women return to action after a bye week with a trip to the Highlands to face Grampian Thistles. After a strong start to the season, West have struggled over the past couple of months and come into the game on the back of three consecutive league defeats. However, they can take confidence from their victory over the Huntly-based side at Hamilton Crescent back in May. Three wickets for Naomi Wormald, followed by 76 from Maryam Faisal, helped West to a three-wicket victory. Grampian, meanwhile, come into the game following a defeat to Carlton last weekend. A half-century from Isabella Watson suggests she could be one to watch for the home side.

Meanwhile, the Sunday XI will host their annual fixture with representatives of the Western Baths at Hamilton Crescent. The sports and health club based on Cranworth Street are a great supporter of the club and the August game is always a fun match played in good spirits. Play is due to start at 12pm with some rain forecast in Glasgow.
