The Roon’d-up: Two wins to complete league season
The Roon’d-Up is our regular summary of events on the field at West over the 2026 season. We’ll cover all the results as well as outstanding and notable performances throughout the season to keep you up to date on the latest events on at Hamilton Crescent.
Saturday 29 August saw the conclusion of the 2026 league season with three excellent games.
Saturday
Allied Vehicles West of Scotland were defeated by just three runs in a nail-biting affair at home to Ayr. Having won the toss and elected to bat, the seasiders made a quick start, reaching 69 for 1 inside 12 overs, but wickets began to fall as the spin of James Fennah (2-40) and a superb spell from Anthony Hulatt pulled West back into contention. Hulatt finished with outstanding figures of 5-39 as Ayr reached 202 all out, with West old boy Jon Fearn top scoring with 48. In reply, West lost early wickets to slump to 65 for 5 before a 50-run partnership between Jesse Mills (37) and Fennah (62*) swung the momentum back towards the home side. Graeme Etheridge (23) provided further hope, but when Oscar Fry (8) was given out lbw, it was Ayr who took the spoils in a thrilling finish. Allied Vehicles West of Scotland finish the Premiership One season in 4th, a successful first season back in the top flight.
The Partick XI, meanwhile, completed a comprehensive 111-run victory over Cambusdoon in Ayr. Having elected to bat, they found themselves in early trouble at 9/3, but 39 from the in-form Rauhit Krishnan and 25 from Jonny Williams helped to build a platform at 83/5. Dave McNulty, however, had other ideas, hitting a superb 81 not out from 77 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, before he ran out of partners with West’s second XI all out for 211. With the ball in his hand, McNulty was also a threat, taking 2-14, with excellent support from Afridi and Kitchen, who also took wickets as Cambusdoon were bundled out for just 100. The victory leaves the Partick XI second in Championship One at the end of a positive season.
Having secured Championship Two safety last weekend, the Hamilton Crescent XI added the cherry to the top of the cake with an 81-run victory over Glenpark. The Greenock club opted to bowl first on a green deck, but characteristic early runs from Shaheer Hussain (56) put our 3s in a strong position. The innings was anchored by Tanmay Nikam, who scored 39, whilst a late unbeaten 54 from Arslan Zubair provided a further boost as our 3s finished their 40 overs on 220-5. A standout bowling performance from Santhosh Kadavath helped press home the advantage, as he took an outstanding 6-17, removing Glenpark's middle order. Youngster Kushagra Garg (2-16) then took his first Saturday wickets for the club to complete an excellent performance, with Glenpark eventually bowled out for 139. The Hamilton Crescent XI finish a topsy-turvy season in sixth place.
