The Roon’d-up: West washed out
The Roon’d-Up is our regular summary of events on the field at West over the 2025 season. We’ll cover all the results as well as outstanding and notable performances throughout the season to keep you up to date on the latest goings on at Hamilton Crescent.
With four no results across the weekend due to rain, the weather ruled as West’s senior sides looked to build some momentum.
At Hamilton Crescent on Saturday, the West of Scotland XI slipped to 36/4 before recovering as Greenock made the most of difficult conditions. John Oliver (47) and Junaid Malik (45*) steadied the ship but rain drew in after 34 overs leaving no result possible.
In their top of the table clash with Titwood, the Partick XI made a strong start with opener Rauhit Krishnan making a flashy 74 and Avaneesh Yilapavanam unbeaten on 85 before the weather took its toll at 184/2 off 40 overs.
Only 14.5 overs were possible in Stenhousemuir where Hamilton Crescent were asked to bat. After The Tryst made early breakthroughs, the game closed with the away side 52/3, Matt Farr top scoring with 20.
The Sunday XI’s game with Ayr reached a more advanced stage with the away side reduced to 125 all out. Two wickets each for the returning Anubhav Joshi, Swami Ananthanarayanan, Naweed Zazai and stand in captain Akshat Fondekar stood out. West started their response well with both openers, Faris Aslam and George Clarke, retiring not out having reached 30. But grey skies moved in with West still 35 runs from victory at 91/2.
On Thursday, Partick play Victoria again at Hamilton Crescent in the quarter final of the Greenwood Trophy, a 6pm start.
