The Allied Vehicles West of Scotland XI had a winning return to the Western Premiership One on the opening day of the 2026 league season.

Having been put into bat by Glasgow rivals GHK, West slumped to 63 for 6 in overcast conditions. Opener Joe Carrasco and overseas all rounder Mekyle Pillay both made 16, but it was the lower order that provided the strongest resistance, with Junaid Malik and Tony Hulatt each striking run a ball 40s to lift West to 170 all out. In reply, GHK lost wickets at regular intervals and were unable to build any meaningful momentum. Pillay added to last week’s cup performance with figures of 3 for 26, including both openers, while debutant Ali Sidhu impressed with 3 for 20 through the middle overs. Hulatt then claimed 2 for 27 to wrap things up, bowling GHK out for 127 and sealing a 43 run victory for the hosts.

In Championship One, the Partick XI completed a successful return trip to GHK Strathclyde with a comprehensive nine wicket victory. Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the visitors made early inroads to dismiss Strathclyde for just 119 in 28 overs. Graeme Etheridge was again among the wickets, taking 4 for 24, including two in the top order and two in the lower order. He was well supported by Steven Richards (2-9) and Lewis Oliver, Innes Algie and Gurjit Singh who all chipped in with a wicket apiece. The chase was never in doubt, with openers Ramsay Brown and skipper Chris Ross laying a solid platform. Brown finished unbeaten on 63, while Ross made 29, before Richards joined to see Partick home inside 20 overs.

The Hamilton Crescent XI, meanwhile, were on the losing end of a close match against LOC Hire The Tryst in Stirling. Having been asked to bat, Tanishq Charde top scored with 23, while Saaid Sufi added an unbeaten 17 as West were bowled out for 131. Pranav Bhat was the pick of the Stenhousemuir 2nd XI bowlers with 3 for 25. In response, captain Moosa Vakil led the way with 4 for 19, and two wickets from last season’s 3rd XI Player of the Year Mamoon Hussain kept Hamilton Crescent in the contest. However, The Tryst ultimately took the points, reaching their target with three wickets in hand and 15 overs to spare.

On Sunday, the Women’s 1st XI defeated Grampian Thistles by four wickets at Hamilton Crescent. Having elected to bowl, West made early inroads, reducing the visitors to 35 for 2, with Robyn Marment taking 2 for 46. A stubborn third wicket partnership of 69 between Robson and Elangovan briefly stalled the hosts, but Abbey Gore struck twice to remove both, finishing with 2 for 34. Naomi Wormald then impressed with 3 for 7 from her three overs to wrap up the innings, dismissing Thistles for 165. In reply, West Women made a strong start thanks to Maryam Faisal, who struck an excellent 76 from 56 balls. With support from Olivia McGhee and Imogen Fox, the chase was kept on track before skipper Gore guided her side home with a composed run a ball 36 not out. Meanwhile the Women’s 2nd XI chased down 98 in a friendly at Stenhousemuir.
