From the Dressing Room: A winning start to the league season

Our latest guest writer Dave McNulty gives us the latest from the West dressing room after GHK are defeated in the opening game of the league season.

With anticipation much higher than the overhead clouds, West looked to build on a strong Scottish cup win against Ayr last week with another strong showing in the league debut.

First loss came via the toss and we happily obliged to bat. With a mad dash of removing covers, putting out discs, removing cages and trying (and failing) to get flashy stumps to light up, the first bit of action came via a good old fashioned throat ball to the opposition keeper, and a mad dash for a first aid kit.

With some very handsome runs by second year sensation,  Joe and professional runs from, well… our overseas professional, we were away. Unfortunately, with the constant flow of wickets and a middle order scorecard that resembled a donut factory, the ever present (and extremely chatty) keeper and the bowlers made a typical West counterattack.

Junaid out chatted them, and with yours truly being unable to locate the middle of my bat for all but 1 of my 50+ deliveries faced, I felt boring them into submission was the way forward to also allow the swashbuckling Tunza Hulatt an opportunity to let everyone know about his highest Prem score (which took all of 3 mins to be discussed). Nevertheless, a competitive total on the board.

After being well fed by a typical Lynn tea, out we went to defend.

Some very professional wickets, and a savvy singular from the other end, we were on top early in our defence. A few fining opportunities in the way of dropped sitters never really derailed our approach and when the thunderbolts of new recruit Ali Sidhu took care of the middle order, victory was in the bag by enough of a margin to stop talking about the match.

Beers and laughs ensued, sprinkled in with more stories of top scores in the Prem league, very questionable DOTD nominations and very sad yet fond farewells for Shubhang Sharma - one of our own. A great team effort and a result that offers much positivity for the season ahead.

Bon Voyage SHUB, we will miss you pal!!
