The Roon’d-up: Partick hopes fade but Hamilton Crescent safe
The Roon’d-Up is our regular summary of events on the field at West over the 2026 season. We’ll cover all the results as well as outstanding and notable performances throughout the season to keep you up to date on the latest events on at Hamilton Crescent.
Saturday
Allied Vehicles West of Scotland were on the end of a 32-run defeat to Shimla Cottage Drumpellier at Langloan. Having asked the home side to bat, West made early inroads through Graeme Etheridge (2-29) and James Fennah (1-13), before Tony Hulatt claimed three wickets to finish with figures of 3-39. Kumara top scored with 34 for the hosts before being dismissed by Moneeb Iqbal, who ripped through the tail with three wickets in just ten balls to leave Drumpellier 141 all out. In reply, skipper Sam Page (38) and wicketkeeper Junaid Malik (25) offered some resistance, but man of the match Kumara produced a superb display with the ball, taking five wickets as West were dismissed for 109. The defeat leaves West fourth in the Premiership One table with one round of league fixtures remaining.
The Partick XI saw their slim hopes of winning Championship One dashed with a 70-run defeat at home to Langloan. After being asked to bat, Langloan made a strong start, reaching 121 for 2 thanks to solid contributions from their top four batters. Ben Cole put paid to the middle order, however, taking 3 for 38. Number eight Mandeep Singh then produced a counter-attacking 38 from 30 balls, but Oscar Fry finished off the tail with 3 for 45 as Langloan were eventually dismissed for 226. West made a solid start to their reply, with Sam Jakobson (32) and Andrew Galloway (26) leading the way, but their dismissals triggered a collapse through the middle order. James Scott (22) briefly revived hopes, but ultimately it was not enough as Partick were dismissed for 156. The defeat sees West drop to third in the table with one to play.
There was success for the Hamilton Crescent XI in Stirling, however, as they defeated Ferguslie 2nd XI by eight wickets to secure their place in Championship Two next season. It was a difficult start for West as Ferguslie raced to 43 inside four overs, but a controlled fightback from Andrew Strong (2-32) and Sravan Jitesh Kirankumar (1-30) removed the top order and began to turn the momentum. Jamie Rennie (43*) and Martin McAllister (46) then led a recovery for the visitors, but once the latter was dismissed, Rennie began to run out of batting partners. Some crafty spin bowling from Saeed Sufi (3-33), alongside two run outs by his hand, saw Ferguslie eventually dismissed for 173. In response, Shaheer Hussain (33) provided his usual quick start before Rauhit Krishnan took control of the chase, scoring an impressive 75 from 76 balls. Alongside Swami Ananthanarayanan (33*), he brought West to the brink of victory before Akshat Fondekar joined at the end to finish the job with an unbeaten 10. The eight-wicket victory, combined with results elsewhere, secures Hamilton Crescent’s place in Championship Two for next season.
Sunday
On Sunday, West Women were defeated by 111 runs by Grampian Thistles in Huntly. Having been asked to bowl, Ruthikssha Elangovan quickly set about scoring runs, reaching 73 from 75 balls for the hosts. However, superb bowling displays from Nadia Tolliday (6-29) and Olivia McGhee (4-45) reined Grampian back, with the home side eventually dismissed for 165. The ball dominated the bat throughout West’s innings, however, as Ava Bell took four wickets for a miserly three runs to help bowl West out for 54. The result sees West Women drop to sixth in the table, while Grampian Thistles are third.
Meanwhile, the now-traditional match between our Sunday XI and Western Baths ended in a 60-run victory for the home side. Strong batting displays saw Tanmay Nikam, Arslan Zubair and Dheeraj Agarwal all retire on 30 not out as West posted 152 from their 30 overs. Despite a strong start from Western Baths’ guest players Thomas Kitchen and Rauhit Krishnan, some excellent bowling from Agarwal , Adhrit Singh and Nakul Jain helped West complete the victory. More importantly, however, the annual fixture once again provided an opportunity to strengthen the ties between the two clubs, with a warm vote of thanks from Western Baths bringing the day to a fitting close.
