The Forecast: Second Half Begins
The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!
West’s sides will all look to cement their recent good form as we, unbelievably, reach the second half of the league season this weekend.
Saturday
West of Scotland XI vs Irvine
Hamilton Crescent hosts the first team again this weekend, with Irvine the visitors. James Fennah’s side will look to bounce back from last Saturday’s disappointment against the Ayrshire club who current lie in 8th place in Western Premiership Two. West took the reverse fixture by 160 runs back in May so there will be cause for some optimism among the ranks. First ball at 12pm.
Bothwell vs Partick XI
Jonny Williams’ side, meanwhile, make the short trip to South Lanarkshire to take on Bothwell. This was a close affair on the first day of the season in Glasgow and the 2s will be expecting to make a good account of themselves given recent form. Bothwell currently sit 6th in the Western Championship One table with likely danger men coming in the shape of Nathan Umeed, who has scored 180 runs with the bat so far the season, and Mubeen Shah, who has nine wickets to date.
Woodfarm vs Hamilton Crescent XI
In Western Championship Two, our 3s visit Woodfarm hoping to overcome the disappointment of last week’s rained off trip to East Kilbride. Woodfarm currently sit 8th in the table, a place below Hamilton Crescent, and it is expected to be a well matched affair. Skipper Moosa Vakhil is expected to miss out with an ongoing ankle injury so Vice Captain Manish Kaushik will take the reigns.
Sunday
Sunday XI vs XL Club
It is a very special ocassion on Sunday as Hamilton Crescent will host the XL Club in memorial to John Cameron. Cammy was a huge part of both West and XL Club, and we are very much looking forward to coming together to celebrate his life. TThe game will start at 11:30am with breaks for lunch and tea. We’ll also take time to plant a tree and install a plaque in Cammy’s honour. All proceeds from a raffle – along with all other profits from the day – will go to St Margaret’s Hospice.
