The Forecast: Title Chases Reach Boiling Point
The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!
It’s crunch time in the Western District Union with just two games left to play across the Saturday leagues.
Saturday
Glasgow Accies vs West of Scotland XI
Western Premiership Two leaders West of Scotland make the short trip across the west end to Glasgow Accies knowing that two more wins will confirm promotion back to Western Premiership One at the first attempt. The Accies currently sit 8th in the league, after defeat to Stirling County last week, and are aiming to ward off relegation so this promises to be a hard-fought affair. West won the home fixture by 14 runs back in June and Accies will be looking to their top performers over the season, Zeeshan Khan who has 307 runs with the bat and Naz Shah who has taken 15 wickets, to reverse their fortunes.
Partick XI vs Shimla Cottage Langloan
The Partick XI, meanwhile, are hoping to cement their good form at home to Shimla Cottage Langloan whilst keeping an eye on results elsewhere as their slim chances of winning Western Championship One continue. League leaders Titwood host Hughenden on Saturday and our second XI need a victory for the away side to take things to the final day. Shimla Cottage Langloan are likely to pose difficult opposition, however, having convincingly beaten Williamfield last week and sitting just below Partick in 3rd. Nathan Allison, who boasts 16 wickets with the ball this season, is likely to be a key man for the North Lanarkshire side. Kick-off is at 12pm at Hamilton Crescent.
Marress v Hamilton Crescent XI
Our 3rd string visit Irvine’s second side, Marress, hoping to pick up a win after inconsistent recent performances. While they were defeated by GHK Strathclyde last week, they did defeat this week’s opponents by 20 runs earlier in the season after a topsy-turvy encounter in Stirling. Experienced batsman Michael Ingram has proved a tough competitor for the hosts, having scored 3 50s this year, whilst Ameer Abbassi has 12 wickets for Marress over the course of the season.
