The Roon’d-up: West stumble but wins elsewhere
The Roon’d-Up is our regular summary of events on the field at West over the 2026 season. We’ll cover all the results as well as outstanding and notable performances throughout the season to keep you up to date on the latest events on at Hamilton Crescent.
Saturday
It was a difficult day in the Forth Valley as Allied Vehicles West of Scotland fell to a 8-wicket defeat at Stenhousemuir. Having won the toss and elected to bat, West lasted fewer than 25 overs as Stenhousemuir’s bowling attack did not hold back, with three wickets apiece for Olly Townsend and Muhammad Atif. Moneeb Iqbal top scored for West, underlining his recent form with a solid 21 from 30 balls, but he fell with West 61/7, eventually going on to reach just 70. Despite an early wicket for Graeme Etheridge it was a comprehensive victory for Stenhousemuir who chased down their target in the 14th over with Yaseen Valli top scoring on 32*. Stenhousemuir leapfrog West into 3rd in the Premiership One table.
There was victory for the Partick XI at Hamilton Crescent, meanwhile, as they defeated Stirling County 2nd XI by 5 wickets. Having elected to bowl under cloudy Glasgow skies, West’s 2s quickly took advantage, with early wickets for Gurjit Singh (2-29) and Ben Cole (3-34) reducing Stirling to 24-3. Alasdair Banks sought to make a recovery for the away side, with a solid 45, but he became the final of four wickets for Jonny Williams (4-31) as Stirling fell to 119 all out. Sam Jakobson starred in the reply for West, scoring an unbeaten 60, whilst 18 for the in-form James Scott helped his side to a 5-wicket victory with ten overs to spare. The result means Partick remain in 3rd in Championship One with a visit to league leaders Whitehaugh to come next weekend.
Hamilton Crescent overturned the form book again in Stirling where they defeated league leaders Woodhall East Kilbride by just 9 runs. Shaheer Hussain continued his strong form, scoring a season best 71 from 83 balls, as West started strongly. But it looked likely to be another frustrating afternoon when the middle order began to misfire, before a quickfire 60 from Swami Ananthanarayanan, coming in at number 6, resurrected the innings. Soon followed by a 23* cameo from Santhosh Kadavath, as West reached a respectable 241 all out from their 40 overs. The bowlers had to show patience in response as Woodhall reached 70 without loss, before wickets from Ananthanarayanan and youngster Thomas Kitchen shifted the momentum. But it was Mamoon Hussain who helped Hamilton Crescent over the line, taking 3-29, as Woodhall were left stranded on 232/9 after their 40.
Sunday
On Sunday, West Women were unable to turn the tide in difficult conditions at Hamilton Crescent as RHC/Lynx ran out seven-wicket winners. Having been asked to bat under leaden skies, opener Jenna Stanton held her nerve with 24 from 36 balls, but wickets fell around her as West struggled to 59 all out. Two wickets apiece for Alyssa Erxleben and Lucy Binsted put the visitors firmly in control, while Erika van den Heever’s run-a-ball 26 helped RHC/Lynx reach their target inside nine overs. Despite a wicket for Nimrita Samra, it was ultimately an afternoon to forget for West.
