The Roon’d-up: West’s Women beat the rain to take a weekend double
The Roon’d-Up is our regular summary of events on the field at West over the 2025 season. We’ll cover all the results as well as outstanding and notable performances throughout the season to keep you up to date on the latest goings on at Hamilton Crescent.
West’s women beat the wet weekend weather with a double win - while the senior sides were foiled by rain again.
West of Scotland Women’s XI secured a 50-run victory at East Kilbride on Sunday. Batting first, Maryam Faisal and wicketkeeper India Harrison got West off to a flying start with a superb opening stand of 131 runs. Faisal was eventually run out for 54, but Harrison carried her bat through the innings with a composed knock, anchoring West’s total of 191/3 from 30 overs. East Kilbride struggled to keep pace in reply, losing wickets at regular intervals. Nayma Sheikh offered firm resistance, however, with an unbeaten 76 but tight bowling from West — particularly Abbey Gore’s economical 2/15 — kept the hosts in check. East Kilbride closed on 141/5, falling well short of the target.

Meanwhile, at Hamilton Crescent, the joint West of Scotland 2s and Clydesdale Women’s side recorded an impressive 88 run victory against Stenhousemuir in the Challenger League. The home side posted 146/0 from their 20 overs with Naomi Wormald top-scoring on 33 before retiring not out. In reply, Azka Fiaz shone with the ball, taking an excellent 3/10 from three overs, as the visitors were restricted to 58/6.

The Sunday XI recorded their first victory of the season in a nail-biting affair at Hillhead. After choosing to bat, the hosts posted 172, thanks in part to tight opening bowling from Sarwar Mohammad, who claimed 4 wickets. West’s reply began well, with a solid 61-run opening stand from Nilesh Joshi (31) and Nikhil Vaz (39). Big-hitting from Mamoon Hussain and Piash Khan pushed the chase forward, but it was left to number 10 Oliver Leadbitter to hit the winning runs — with just one ball to spare.
Rain once again dominated Saturday’s senior fixtures. McCrea West of Scotland’s home game against Langside was cancelled without a ball bowled, and Partick’s fixture at Albert Park was cut short at 78/1 (Rauhit Krishnan 46, Zeyd Clayburn 23)* after just 19.4 overs. At Stirling, Hamilton Crescent managed to bat their full innings, though were dismissed for 122 — Piash Khan (25) and Mamoon Hussain (24) providing some resistance. Anniesland reached 30/2 in 7.1 overs before rain ended the contest, with wickets taken by Naweed Zazai and Graeme Etheridge.
Coming up this midweek, the Midweek XI host Hillhead on Tuesday whilst Partick continue their Western Cup campaign on Wednesday at home to Mingavie - both starting at 6pm.
