A perfect 10 for the u13s as they land the treble02 September 2013 - 23:05:11West's u13s completed their 10 game unbeaten league campaign with a 9 wicket win against Clydesdale CC at Titwood this evening.
Clydesdale won the toss and elected to bat in what was a 16 over match (it is September!). They started at a brisk pace until u11 Angus Barrett was brought into the bowling and he took the wickets of Ashraf, Macias and Cairns. This had the effect of also putting a brake on the batting side's run rate and a few more scalps were taken before Clydesdale finished on 67-7 after their 16 overs.
With a low target set, skipper Coats put u11 Angus Guy and Aidan Fitzgerald in to open the batting to burn out the Dale bowling attack's overs in the shortened format. Not only did they do that but put on a 59 run partnership to make the game safe. Aidan eventually chipped one ball too many (!) to be caught on 25, however Angus Guy saw the team home with an excellent unbeaten 32 with 4.3 overs to spare. Both boys showed great maturity with some beautiful shots along the way.
So a great win to finish off a terrific league campaign. The league trophy was presented to Callum Coats after the match by Tim Hart, and the boys can put it into the trophy cabinet next to the WDJCU League Cup and ECB National Club Championship Trophy won during the season.
A terrific achievement from a great group of boys who have all represented themselves and their club with distinction over a long season. We should be proud of them all.Posted by: Bob Coats
Junior awards Day01 September 2013 - 21:15:23Sunday was Junior Awards Day at West. We started with the first innings of the Kids v Dads match (nothing sexist about that, no Mums volunteered to play).
At the break, everyone enjoyed a splendid buffet thanks to Lynne & Lorraine.
Jim Young then addressed the multitudes, thanking all the parents for their vital support of the Junior Section, and John Blain, Bob Coats, Jon Sedgwick and all the coaches who had contributed to a great season.
The Awards were presented as follows:
U11 Player of the Year -- Murray Sedgwick
U13 Player of the Year -- Robbie McCallum
U15 Player of the Year -- Alex Ewing
U18 Player of the Year -- Andy Galloway
Team of the Year -- The Under 13 Treble Winners
Junior Player of the Year -- Aidan Fitzgerald.
Thanks were expressed to Club Sponsors, McCrea Financial Services, who donated the magnificent trophies.
It was then back to battle, and the Dads fought back in the final innings of the match to secure an unlikely Tie.Posted by: Jim Young

They Think It's All Over - It is Now!!01 September 2013 - 09:40:08.......At least for West 1s and 2s. Season 2013 ended with two defeats. Clydesdale beat McCrea FS West at Titwood by 38 runs. Gurjit Sandhu and Richard Cox, each with 3 wickets, saw Clydesdale dismissed for 145. In reply McCrea FS West managed 107. Farewell innings from Dylan Pinkstone (27) and Dougie Lockhart (14) got us off to a reasonable start but the innings subsided fairly tamely after they had gone.
Dylan - Have a great time in Greece, a safe trip home with Jess. It has been great having the two of you here this summer. Welcome back, anytime.
Dougie - who announced his retirement from cricket and received a guard of honour from his teammates on his final walk back to the dressing room -has been a great servant of Scottish Cricket for nearly 20 years. Starting at Glasgow Accies, 15 great years at West and a Scotland stalwart and captain, Dougie is a role model for any cricketer, young and old. To make the most of your skills and abilities, practice, practice and practice - Dougie did exactly that, and look what he achieved. Thanks, Dougie. All the best for the future for you, Joanne, Megan and Olivia.
Partick were beaten by Titwood at Hamilton Crescent by 2 wickets. The evergreen John Sedgwick scored 79 in Partick's total of 239 but Titwood amassed 240 for the loss of 8 wickets. Sorry for lack of details - I just hope you posted the result to WDCU website because I can't find it!!
Congratulations to Uddingston on winning CSL Western Premier Title for 2013. We look forward to welcoming them and Arbroath United to Hamilton Crescent next Saturday (7th) for the Title decider. Have a good day!
This is your scribe's last result post of 2013. Off to sun myself in Portugal - see you all soon!!Posted by: John Thomson
